Another Rider Killed by Cager

Be careful out there guys and gals, we are invisable.

A Libertyville motorcyclist died early Wednesday morning following a multi-vehicle accident near the village, authorities said.

Stephen C. Amer, 36, suffered severe head injuries and broken bones in the accident, which occurred about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday at Route 176 and St. Mary's Road, police said.

He was flown by emergency helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, but could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at 4:42 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Three other vehicles were involved in the crash. One person was hurt but survived, police said.

Amer was headed east on Route 176 on a 2004 Harley-Davidson when he collided with a 1999 Toyota Camry that was turning from westbound Route 176 onto southbound St. Mary's Road, Lake County sheriff's police said.

Amer was thrown from the motorcycle, according to police reports.

The Camry then hit 2005 Buick LeSabre and a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox that were stopped in the northbound lanes of St. Mary's Road, police said.

The driver of the Camry was identified as Nitaben G. Patel, 41, of Liberal, Kansas. He was examined by paramedics at the scene and released, reports said.

The driver of the LeSabre was identified as Ruth E. Baker, 65, of 2307 Aspen Drive, Woodstock. She was examined at the scene and released.

The driver of the Equinox was identified as Johnny L. Lambert, 59, of 3081 Midlane Drive, Wadsworth. He was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Lambert's medical condition was not available Wednesday.

No tickets were issued after the crash, which remained under investigation.

I agree, but as riders, we need (or should need) constant reminders that we are not as safe as we think we are.

I never worry about my riding, I worry about the other drivers on the road.
I am constantly planning my escape routes, and ride like no one can see me.

Many close calls, just Sunday a woman blew a red light at speed, and I don't mean running a yellow, I mean she had more than enough time to stop on the yellow.

I'll say it again ... we are all better car drivers because we ride motorcycles.

Yep, YZFRob is right though: They must think we are "2nd class citizens". But they sure as hell ain't "1st class" ones while they continue to cause these ignorant-ass accidents.

I agree with you ... but I think it's good that we get reminded constantly of this kind of thing. Although we all hope this, we cannot expect these car drivers to learn any kind of responsibility or even minor consideration of motorcyclists. They sure haven't learned yet, and I don't expect them to in my lifetime.

I agree with you completely...it's just that every time I read one of these, it puts the fear in me about the possibility of Brianne getting hurt or killed in an accident like this. I had a minor car accident back in January, and it messed me up in the head a bit because if was a left hand turn incident. I kept thinking what if this was on the SV...

Scared too. I keep playing the WHAT IF game, but even if you are cautious, there are moments when you simply don't have time to react.
