Neighbor

Ok quick question on how should I handle this diplomatically. I was in my back yard with the kids shooting off roman candles. We shot 2 of them (10 shots each). We were going in the house and here comes my neighbor from across the alley. Saying hey I saw you guys shoot bottle rockets and I noticed them coming down with all the cars around I just wanted to let you know that's probably not a safe idea. I simply told him that these aren't coming down on anyones properties. They aren't even coming down on our garage and some of them were hitting the garage on the way up (that's the only place we have some dirt to put them in). Also our garage has vines with leaves growing on it. But none of the flares were coming down on our garage or anyone elses. That's about all that was said being that I didn't want to get into a shouting match with him about him being overly concerned. Not to mention we were done for the night anyways. So my intentions are to go over there (on another day later this week) and have a simple talk with him. The first thing is that I didn't address it with him tonight because I didn't want some sort of argument to ensue. But not only am I an adult (to which I'm sure he assumes that I'm not) I am a responsible adult. Now while I appreciate his concern I wouldn't be engaging in any hazardous activity to myself or anyone else. Not one of the flares went on anyones property. I am trying to have a good time with the kids and follow the intended use of the fireworks. Is there some other way I should handle this. We have about 8 or so more of those candles that we are trying to get rid of before the 4th for reasons I will not mention right now

wait till the 4th of july and if he comes over and says something again. tell him to go get fucked and call a cop.

i also woundnt go back talking to him. all he is gonna do is keep an eye on you to mess with you.

instead act like it doesnt even bother you.

last year i blew off fire works, i plan to do it again. if my neighbors dont like it? then can kiss my ass.

i am a fucken American and as long as i take precautions in case of a fire and i am on my property? then kiss my ass.

if it falls on yours? then sorry but its the 4th and if your crazy enough to have a safety zone around your house and your gonna freak every time someone lights something off? then be like everyone else. have a garden hose ready.

this year i am blowing off more then i did last year.

i already have

10 each 3" mortars
10 each 4" mortars

hell i might even get more if i blow them off to fast.

If you are in IL, you can start by teaching the kids what the law is regarding Roman Candles or any other firework that shoots a projectile.

Diplomatically, just tell the neighbor SORRY and make it believable. That's the quickest way to diffuse the situation.

If push comes to shove, I would bet those are illegal fireworks.

Always understand where you actually stand in any argument before you get into one.

425 ILCS (Illinois Compiled Statutes) Sections 30 - 35 make it illegal to sell, possess, and use fireworks. Fireworks displays are allowed with locally issued permits.

Fireworks laws are enforced by state and local law enforcement personnel.

Common fireworks are classified as class C explosives; M-80s are more powerful and dangerous and are classified as class B explosives. Dynamite is a class A explosive.

Safety requirements exist for stores selling fireworks: smoking is prohibited; signs stating "Fireworks for Sale" must be displayed; and fireworks cannot be displayed in glass cases where the sun shines through the glass.

Fireworks injuries are avoidable injuries. Follow all safety precautions.

Everyone likes fireworks displays. For safety's sake, OSFM encourages all Illinois citizens to attend public fireworks displays. Public fireworks displays are those adhering to all legal requirements.

Fireworks Definitions

From 425 ILCS (Illinois Compiled Statutes) Section 30/2

Definitions

(a) The term fireworks shall mean and include any explosive composition or any substance or combination of substances, or article prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect of a temporary exhibitional nature by explosion, combustion, deflagration or detonation, and shall include blank cartridges, toy cannons in which explosives are used, the type of balloons which require fire underneath to propel the same, firecrackers, torpedoes, sky rockets, Roman candles, bombs or other fireworks of like construction, and any fireworks containing any explosives compound; or any tablets or other device containing any explosive substance or containing combustible substances producing visual effects. The term "fireworks" shall not include snake or glow worm pellets; smoke devices; sparklers; trick noisemakers known as "party poppers," "booby traps," "snappers," "trick matches," "cigarette loads" and "auto burglar alarms" toy pistols, toy canes, toy guns or other devices in which paper or plastic caps containing twenty-five hundredths grains or less of explosive compound are used, provided they are so constructed that the hand cannot come in contact with the cap when in place for the explosion; and toy pistol paper or plastic caps which contain less than twenty-five hundredths grains of explosive mixture; the sale and use of which shall be permitted at all times.

Sparklers and snakes and smoke bombs are legal specifically permitted. Firecrackers, bottle rockets and roman candles and a couple of other things aren't. Or are specifically prohibited. This guys sits on his back porch a lot. He will probably be out there tomorrow morning when I leave for work at 6am. Yeah I don't know what his deal is... Talking about cars or what ever our cars were sitting out there right by where we lit the rc's. He was just being a dick head because I'm sure he thinks I'm a teenager.

We have legal ones that we are saving for the 4th. I don't want him coming over and creating problems for us on the 4th either. The rc's will be gone hopefully (I'm not using them on the 4th if they are not ). But I do have sparklers (legal), smoke bombs (legal), snakes (legal) and fountains (not sure of-does anyone know) all for the 4th. So before this becomes some all out Hatfieds and McCoys I want to address the situation. I don't want this clown trying to call the police the entire 4th of july on us for lighting sparklers claiming we are lighting rc's which we won't be.

Seriously considering this definition sparklers would be a hazardous item. Is it me but weren't many of the prohibited fireworks permitted when we were kids?

He was being a nice neighbor by **not** sending the police.

Those types of fireworks are illegal, if he pushes, you lose.

Clearly it concerns him. You could talk to him and see if you can
address his concerns and still shoot them off ( no complaint ) or
ignore him, piss him off and have him call the cops.

Tom ( The Fireworks Cop )

I don't necessarily know how nice of a neighbor he was trying to be. Nor am I going to piss anyone off by continuing to shoot off fireworks that they are complaining about. Which is what the talk is for. I can understand why the concern is there and trust me if I my kids were outside unsupervised shooting them off I could and would understand. But to come crying to another adult and the way he said it is the part that has me rubbed the wrong way. I think he thought or thinks b/c there were a group of teenagers out in the alley next door that maybe I'm a teenager. Who knows! Could the flares come down on someone else's property and start a fire-I seriously doubt it. They were hitting our garage some of them and not even making it up over the garage and went out before they could come back down. His concern is noted but not likely.

The fountains are good!!! But you do see what I'm saying. We may have to deal with this guy the entire 4th of July for doing legal fireworks! Trust me on this! I live right on the city line and on the city side (hell maybe on the Oak Park side don't know exactly). There are all types of illegal fireworks going off around my house! I really don't want him sending the police over here suspecting oh they have these fireworks and that's what I keep hearing! It won't be use but trust me there will be plenty of people around here lighting fireworks!

Not on the 4th my friend...

3rd declaration: In such extreme circumstances, the law is by definition inadequate. To shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law, to pursue natural justice. This is not vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive-it is an emotional response. Vengeance serves no larger purpose. Society does not benefit from vengeance. Violent men are not deterred by acts of vengeance. The only appropriate response to their actions is the one I have chosen to pursue: a course of purposed, intentional violence. Violence intended to instruct, as much as destruct. A course, in a word, of punishment

The rc's we have only shoot the flares. There aren't any reports or crackling coming from them. I made sure NOT to get those types of roman candles. Or anytype of firework that had a report coming from it.

I'd just talk to him and show him how you are being responsible. If he was nice enough to come talk to you instead of bitching you out to the cops, he will probably stop worrying if you prove you are being responsible. I know a few people that have woken up after July 4th to find scorch marks on their cars from idiots lighting off fireworks. Most people who shoot of fireworks in subdivisions don't have enough space but do it anyways. Even out here on 3-4 acres it can be iffy depending. I'd ease his concerns and make a friend instead of pushing a topic you will lose. He's probably just worried about idiots setting his roof on fire, and doesn't know you from adam.

Rated r, I used to be a kaplans person. Last year I discovered Phantom Fireworks and what a difference. That place was so much better, I got like 400 dollars worth of free stuff from em as well for what I spent. Very organized and clean compared to kaplans. Great prices and the best part was they had a bunch of hot ass college chicks working there. Everything about it was awesome. Its on 30 by the mall out there, I think thats southlake mall?

Did you just move here? Illinois has probably the most stringent laws regarding fireworks. Ever notice the all the Fireworks huts dotted across state lines in IN, WI, IA, KY, MI?

Snakes, smokes, and sparkers are as cool as it gets, legally.

Depending on where you live most cops dont even go to fireworks calls, especially on the 4th. I once lit a neighbor's yard on fire, and with the fire dpt out there and the cops knowing what happened no tickets were issued (granted the neighbors were TOTALLY cool about there back yard going up in smoke)

Try here. If it leaves the ground or shoots sparks (sparklers exempt) its illegal here. Fines are on the stiff side also.

Yeah. The reason I am waiting to talk to him is because he wasn't acting (shall I say reasonable). He was acting more like he wanted an argument. "Those bottle rockets you are shooting..." Which we weren't shooting bottle rockets and I told him that! Secondly he knows dayum well who I am... He sits out on his back porch quite regularly and I see him back there a lot of the time. Not to mention we cook on our gas grill on our back porch and I'm very sure he can see us. He speaks from time to time. Offered the father in law a cigar once. I completely agree and can understand that no one wants any damage to their property. Hell I know I don't. But nothing went in his yard. Nothing came close to his property. If anything got close or in the vicinity of someone's property it was ours. Both of our cars are parked right by where we lit the rc's. It's within a foot of the garage where we buried it. And the house is maybe 20 or so feet from that. The guy was honestly being a dick (IMHO). Not one of the flares touched anything except maybe some leaves from a tree going up. So... That's why I said he's being a dick. Nothing came down on anything nor touched anything. Like was said earlier being we have vines growing on our garage a couple got caught in the leaves and never made it up. But they also never made it to the ground. I am not going to do the rc's on the 4th and I am trying to get rid of them before the 4th b/c I don't want any unnecessary attention brought to our yard on that day due to all the completely illegal fireworks that are lit around here. But if he's acting like this tonight on the 4th if he's around I can't imagine it being much better. It's drought like conditions or anything. There were little puddles still present from the off and on rains.
