Hmmm...you may want to take a jaunt into nearby Oak Brook/Lombard. Everything you can imagine there.

McCormick and Schmick's (seafood), Kona Grill (seafood and sushi) and Grotto (italian) are all at meyers and butterfield road on the south side. Zed 451 is an amazing all you can eat steakhouse at butterfield and finley road. In Oak Brook Terrace itself, The Melting Pot (Fondu) is at Summit and Roosevelt...but it's an older place.

Do you have a price range or type of food in mind? I almost never eat at home & everything mentioned is nearby. In this area there has to be over 100 restaurants within a 5 mile radius.

If it's nice out & you're looking for high quality food you might check out Redstone. An awesome patio & a pretty diverse menu. Not super high-end, but $30 to $50 ea. with a few drinks.

j. alexanders, redstone, wildfire already mentioned, but i'd agree with those.

maggiano's is good too. i've never been to either one of these, but the clubhouse and cheesecake factory are there as well.

Virtually anything in the area is good.

I'll give another bump to J. Alexander's & RA Sushi. And if you ask me, the Melting Pot is overrated.

J Alexander's is a chain, and I think too $$ for what you get.
I won't go near the Melting Pot. It's totally unauthentic. If you're going to waste those kinds of calories, it had better be damn perfect IMO. And, for the money they charge you, you could fly to Bern and have my aunt make you fondue that's 100x better.

Maggiano's is just about the only chain mentioned that I think is worth the visit. Unfortunately, it's not worth the WAIT.

For something with more local atmosphere there's the Golden Pheasant on North at 83 on the south side of the street just a few doors west of 83.
I haven't been there in a long time, but the last time I was there the food was good, reasonably priced and a more laid back atmoshere than the big franchise places.

Unfortunately, I think just about everything in that general area, unless you go to a hole in the wall, is a chain. I cannot think of any restaurant, by Oakbrook or Yorktown mall, that's not. *shrug*

There's a microbrewery close to where we had burntash's birthday-- er, pukeday-- that was pretty good. I think it's only a small chain. I enjoyed my meal although I can't off the top of my head remember what I ate

Redstone. Done and done.

If you want seafood, go to Reel Club in Oakbrook Mall and order the Alaskan Black Cod. It's the only thing they do right and they do it to perfection! Best piece of fish I have ever had.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

well, that totally sucks. I work in Oak Brook and you really don't want to even be in the area at 5pm. the fact that you're heading north is better than heading south, but that immediate area is really a nightmare at 5pm. I would check the traffic report before you leave, but I'd guess take 294 north to 55 south and then to 83 north from there. the 294/88 interchange area where you would have to exit the highway if you stayed on 294 is full of construction. Regardless of the route, you'll be hitting areas of traffic at some point. Any potential for you to leave earlier and find something to do while you wait for her to get done? (walk around the mall, hang out at a book store, etc)
