I do it out of respect and precaution. Those that are friends will be free to view any of the contents.

But, to the general public of idiots, they can't view pics that I can set to private.

I think the question should be asked the other way.

Why do you have a website, like myspace, and ALLOW anyone but your friends to view it?

I don't have it for random people, I have it to keep in touch with people I already know.

Not sure what an "address book" is? My gramma probably has one, let me ask her.

Yep

Honest answer though.

I use Facebook to keep track of people I've known throughout all years of school that I don't really have time to talk to or see on a regular basis. I have friends over seas that I keep track of when talking on the phone is tricky with time differences.

For example:

Someone I knew in college just bought a 1000rr and without Facebook, I probably wouldn't have ever known because we don't talk much. Now, we've kind of reconnected.

Do I have a good reason for setting it to private? Not really, but in my opinion, I don't care for random people seeing what's going on in my life. It probably doesn't matter either way, but it's easier to set the entire profile to private than individual aspects of it.

I wasn't questioning the use of either as I do the same.

It's not that hard to set albums to private, the same way you set your whole profile to private is how you set your album to private, you check a box.

It all ties together. I explained why I use it, which doesn't include people I don't know browsing my page, so that's why I set it to private.
