I've been following the news and it looks like I got out just in time!!! It rained steadily all the way to Iowa last night, and it stopped around breakfast time... it's been cloudy all afternoon but at least the streets are dry again.

Looks like Chicago is getting HAMMERED... and the south burbs are expected to take the brunt of Ike's remnants.

Well there was a nice break in the rain. the river has been at the same level for the last 6 hours or so. Has not come over yet but it is still close. Round 2 of the rain is here now. im on river watch for the night, have to warn everyone on the street if it comes over. I have a case of beer though so i should be good....Had some friends come over and we emptied the basement and got everything off the garage floor. drank some beer and played in the flood waters down the road for a while. i will have more pics when the sun comes up...

I'm setting up a cot next to the sumps.

I can sleep through them running (thank you 32db noise reduction earplugs) but I'm going to leave a hand down on the floor as my alarm

The next few hours are going to be the deciding factor, IMO...

8 years ago, we had some water come in the chimney ash cleanout trap in the basement... that was when I caulked some 2X2s down to partition off that area and divert it to the sumps... Nothing ever came through there again until tonight and it worked like a charm.

The main outside sump is cycilng about every 2 minutes and it's a 1/2 hp one that is keeping up fine.. I have another on standby if this burns out and I can splice it in w/ the pvc in about 5 minutes tops... Generator on standby ready to run out on the deck with cords run, but I doubt we'll lose power....

F*ck it.. switching laptop batteries and sitting in the garage for another cigar and another couple of fingers of Makers Mark first....

Everyone Exaggerates

We're being taken for a ride... agaaaaaaain.....

I'm over by Safety Town in Naperville... Just west of there.. luckily at the high-line of the subdivision... I feel bad for the lower lying areas in this neighborhood though, they have to be having a bitch of a time because the retention ponds were full at 6pm.. I don't even want to imagine what it is now.

Hey Bryan, how is the creek now? We're about to get dumped on by Ike.

Well if y'all aren't already pissed off, how about this one? Our forecast was for a weekend of t-storms and rain and anywhere from 20-70mph winds from the outskirts of Ike.
We got a weekend of sunny skies, soft breezes, and only about 30 minutes of rain this morning.

Unfortunately, I have my ex bf here as an Ike evacuee. He wasn't so lucky; his apartment is on Nassau Bay in Clear Lake. Just outside of JSC.

Anywhere along River Road by the Des Plaines River is getting closed. I know that coming back late this morning the first road open across the river was Belmont, and even there the water was up to the bridge, so who knows if that is still open. Ironically, the viaducts on North Ave. in Melrose Park were fine.

I have a small puddle in my basement. less than what was pictured above even. Luckily my house is on high ground (compared to the rest of my area). I've been here 8 years and i've only got that little puddle 2 or 3 times. No sump either.

Likely gonna cruise about on the zuma soon to check out some of the surrounding area. seems the rain is down to a minimal amount, soon to be ending.
