No More Riding in Jeans for Me

From day 1 of my road riding career I have ridden in a helmet, gloves, boots a leather jacket .... and jeans. Around town and on trips both short and long. I have never owned a full leather suit.

Until now. Thanks to my wife (and MVRC51 for putting the bug in her ear).

MVRC51 expressed some concern to my wife about me riding in jeans all the time. Then when my wife saw the pixs from the NC trip, she noticed that Bug and I were the only two riding in jeans. So, she decided I needed a full suit.

There was only one choice for me. Vanson.

She told me to order one before the last F4T, but I told her I would not be able to get it in time and that I wasn't confident that I could measure myself and fill out the custom order form. I was a bit lost and needed some help. Then I found out that Vanson would be at Indy. Perfect.

So, on Friday, between practices, we headed over to tour the vendor area and we found Vanson. I started talking with Doug Irons and trying on the jackets. I wanted the same jacket I have now because I like it so much. I just needed it in a larger size. And this new version has a few new features. It has 3 zippers to attach the pants (good for track days) and new vents located on the inside of the elbows. While I was trying on jackets Kim van der Sleesen came over to help out and make sure I got the right size.

At that point, my brother Jason came in (he has been racing in Vanson suits for 10 years) and said hello to everyone and got to put some faces to names and catch up with the owner a bit.

After we took care of the jacket, the liner and the back protector, Kim started measuring me for the custom pants.

I think Vanson is a fantastic company and they have excellent high quality products. I bought my Cobra jacket 7 years ago for $400. I had to get the wrist zippers replaced because they stopped working (became brittle), but that was the only problem I had. I have also seen the suits my brother has used (after being crashed in too!) and they are top notch. The also do excellent reapair work on crashed suits (just ask Jason, lol).

Kim and Doug were a big help and Kim was nice enough to throw in some sample size leather lotion and a tee shirt (I chose black of course).

Here is what she bought for me.

Mark 2 Cobra jacket - newer version of the jacket I have been wearing for 7 years.

http://www.vansonleathers.com/produc...cob2_cobra.htm

Cold weather liner - newer version of the liner I have and it comes with removable sleeves.

http://www.vansonleathers.com/produc...treamliner.htm

Armor - The jacket was 10% off at Indy and came with full armor, but she did have to buy the back protector.

http://www.vansonleathers.com/product_pages/armor1.htm

Pants - I was measured for a custom set of pants that included armor and velcro for knee pucks.

http://www.vansonleathers.com/produc...ider_pants.htm

I'll have it all in 2 months.

Thanks honey!

If you ain't with us, then it's just bad news.

Very nice.

I stopped in the vanson booth at the bike show last Feb. I was only going to get some pants to match my jacket, but instead I ended up buying a 1pc suit.

I dumped my Ninja once, and fortunately was wearing my 1pc. I didn't feel a thing! Don't know how it would have worked out if had on jeans, perhaps not as lucky.

Congrats! That wife is awesome! What did you put in her drink to get her to buy that for you?

I'm looking for a CC payment and thinking about Vanson leathers, have been looking and contemplating all summer long actually.

And, what would a post in Jrock's thread be without me correcting his verbiage?

Quote:
This confusion can easily be avoided if you pronounce the word intended aloud. If it has a voiced Z sound, then it’s “lose.” If it has a hissy S sound, then it’s “loose.” Here are examples of correct usage: “He tends to lose his keys.” “She lets her dog run loose.” Note that when “lose” turns into “losing” it loses its “E.”

Can't be worn without a helmet.

It is a size 42. I paid $400 for it and $100 for the cold weather liner. No armor. Never been crashed in.

Let me know how much and I will think about it (I can't promise I will be able to part with it).

Damn straight!

The driveway is 4.048 miles in length and 14 turns. The driveway features many elevation changes, along with a long front stretch where speeds approaching 200 mph may be reached. One of the best known features of this driveway is a turn on the backside known as "the kink."
