Lawnmower help

So, my lawnmower has blue smoke coming out of the side and (obviously) smells like burning. How do I make it stop so I can finish the lawn. Is there something I should check or something to try to fix it?

I put gas in it, did a couple rows and it started to smoke. I put more oil in it, that didn't help. Flipped it over to clean it. Still isn't right.

this is also common if you overfill the amount of oil that should be in there

if you haven't changed the oil recently then its possible you have bad rings that requires engine work $$$

Blue exhaust is generally indicative of burning oil. If its a two stroke, maybe you added too much oil to the gas. Not to familiar with 2 strokes. If its a 4 stroke, bad rings or head gasket. Or you added oil to the gas.

That is a completely scientific and valid procedure. Post pics of you and your hair so we can help you with your lawn mower.

Drain the oil, refill with the proper amount of fresh oil.

If there is any chance the gas you put in had oil in it.... drain it
and replace it with fresh clean gas.

It will likely smoke briefly when you start it again, but it should
clear up after a minute or two. If it doesn't it's FUBAR.

If it was flipped over the wrong way, the air filter usually gets filled with oil. Would cause oil to get into the intake...and the resulting smoke. And flipping it again could fill the air filter enough that it won't run.

Might want to look at the air cleaner. And check the oil level. Doesn't take a lot of oil

Ok, so, update. The cute guy who was cutting my neighbors lawn noticed my plight and offered to finish it for me.

Hopefully it doesn't rain much in the next two weeks, cause I think the lawnmower's fucked.

I don't have a bike right now, but no, i wouldn't.

I just thought that maybe there was a lot of grass in there or... something. And that maybe it was preventing the blades from spinning like they were suppose to, and it was making the motor do... something.

I had no idea what I was doing.

+1 on this. You mentioned you flipped it for cleaning, was it on the carburetor side 'cause I did that last year when I took the blade out to sharpen it. It wouldn't start 'cause the filter was soak in oil. After cleaning it, it smoked a lot after I got it to run after 10 tries. Like SuperDave said, check the filter. Later.

sounds like it's burning oil. Buy a busa! (and throw the engine in the lawnmower )

Btw, sounds like you're talking about a pushmower (unless you're pretty strong and lift riding lawnmowers to warm up ), I wouldn't even mess with it if it's a cheap one..Tear it down and check the piston sleeve for any gouging, and if ya want/have the means replace the rings/gaskets if it's a nice one.

DGY sells lawnmowers. If you can get OTD for MSRP, you are doing pretty good. And don't buy the warranty.
