Anderson Silva pondering retirement?

WOW - Good for him

http://intheguard.tv/portal/?channel...ction=1&id=288

UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva was recently interviewed by Brazilian cable channel SporTV. The TV show [Sensei SporTV], featuring Spider, will air on September 27, but the editors released a shocking excerpt from the interview with Silva, when the champion spoke on his retirement from MMA:

"I'll retire next year, I already gave my all. I don't need to prove anything for anyone and within one year I'll put my gloves aside."

Ana Hissa, the editor who contacted us with this breaking news, was emphatic, saying that Silva mentioned retirement several times. This was unimaginable for them because Silva is in the best stage of his career and is the king pin of UFC's 185 pounds division.

We where unable to reach the fighter to add more on this bombastic interview or to know if he'll leave MMA and move to Pro Boxing.

I was thinking Iceman myself - It has been sad to see him begin loosing.

I bet Rich Franklin hopes Silva retires. Then maybe he can get the middleweight belt back and not another ass kicking. I thought Silva was going to fight more in the 205 light heavyweight class. He did pretty good his last fight at 205.

I came here to drink some beer and kick some ass. And it looks like we are all out of beer.

Hmmmm...I think he's bluffing. He never seems to get the big card payday and I doubt he's half as Rich as a Lidell or Couture. If its not about the money, then I believe it but I think its a ploy to demand some big money matches to keep him interested.

Yes...he is unstoppable but that weight class is shallow compared to the LHs. IMHO he is bored.

Irvin at 205 is an example of a boring wasted fight for Silva.

It's about the dough for sure. He will keep fighting if the right money comes along. If not he will move into something more lucrative.

Silva just needs a challenge. he's always come across in interviews as someone who doesn't really care about his legacy, or how much money he gets.

I wouldn't be suprised to see him walk away. or at least leave MMA and try to set up that fight with Roy Jones Jr. which will probably end up in another UFC induced legal battle. not good for anyone

somehow Dana needs to get the sanctioning bodies to drop the weight classes so we can see a superfight tournament with Silva, BJ, GSP, a LHW TBD, and Fedor

Another article I read said he is a "Company Man and always did what was asked by Dana White" so who knows - It also said he wanted to try his hand at Boxing

His Oct 25th next scheduled fight against Cote is a joke as well. I bet Lesnar is getting paid triple Silvas rate to fight Couture and he's fought twice in the UFC.

Couture might just command the highest rate this next fight.

He would get destroyed in boxing. He is not a big stand up guy. Maybe kick boxing. He has nasty kicks and knees.

Penn is 155? He went up to 170 to fight GSP (and lost) I cannot see him going even heavier.

To me, he seems to be the kind of guy to excel in anything he puts his mind to - He is good on the ground, he is wicked in the stand up both legs and arms

He has fought 205 before, no? - With Silva dropping to 175 and Penn coming up, I think it would be one helluvah a fight - Maybe I just like to watch both those guys fight and to se them go after each other wold be great

Speaking of Lidell...at what point does Rashad Evans fight a legitimate contender to back that undefeated record? He's got a few big names (Ortiz, Lidell) but no one at the top of their game.

Liddel has been washed up before he appeared on Entourage.
Silva is the man but there isn't anyone that can give him a good fight.

I am a fan of Franklin, Good routine and a hell of a fighter. Damn did he get his shit broke though when he fought Silva. I'm pretty sure after that Knee to the face he could smell his ear with how bad his nose was spun off to the side..... OUCH!

what bugs me most about this is that Lesnar is getting a title shot in his 3rd fight. He got beat by a better technical fighter in Mir and won a decision over Heath Herring who hasn't been relevant in a while. How does that make any sense? I know people will tune in and pay to see Lesnar and Randy but for the title already? Come on

Huge Penn fan, I think it'd be really close. When BJ wants to he and he puts his mind to training I don't think there's anyone who can challenge him. I'd really like to see him fight Urijah Faber (whether Urijah moves up or BJ moves down), I think it'd be a really exciting fight

The problem is the confusion around the current HW title holder. Couture was it until he walked away from the UFC and Nogueira is the interim. Both beat Sylvia but Nog beat him more recently although he only has 2 fights in the UFC.

If Lesnar beats Couture Im guessing he doesnt become the champ but will have to fight the winner of Mir and Nog.

I think BJ would just be too big. Faber is little, and doesn't really cut much to get to 145. there's no way BJ would cut down to 45. Tyson Griffen worked Faber at 155, BJ would murder him.

I think the better fight would be Faber vs Torres

The talk is the winner of each fight would fight in a unification bout. So he would become part champ. Regardless, the fact he's even in this spot so early is ridiculous. Forest fought for years before getting his shot, Diego Sanchez (barring his suspension) has been dominating his fights and I haven't heard any talk for him getting a title shot or even moving up into a contender spot.

This move just reeks of publicity and not of who's deserving to be in the fight

I agree, Lesnar should have to pay his dues. but if he can beat Randy, wouldn't you say he deserves a shot at Mir/Nog?

Diego was one loss away from being out of the UFC. you kind of lose your contender status with back to back losses.

and Forest kind of jumped in line for his title shot as well. before he beat Rua, he hadn't beat anyone of note, and had losses to Jardine and Tito.
