Can I Hook up stolen phone

Ok, before everyone jumps down my throat I will explain.
Saturday my wifes purse was stolen with her brand new phone in it.
She has insurance and they sent out a new phone on Monday.
Yesterday she came home from work and some wonderful person found her purse and returned it to our front door step with her phone in it.
So now we have 2 phones. My question is can I unlock the "stolen" phone and use it?

If my calculations are correct, this will create ice... OH NO, KILLER MUSTARD GAS!

Call your insurance company and tell them what happened or sell the phone for parts... I wouldn't mess with that ESN anymore.

If you are going to use it on a different service you will need to get the phone unlocked. I know there is a place in bolingbrook that will unlock phones so that they can be used with different providers than they were started with. I would probably see if they will take back the replacement phone and get refunded or hold onto the returned phone in case the new one breaks.

I'd send the replacement phone back. Good Karma.

+1 on Karma

And with the same carrier thats a big NEGATIVE! The ESN should and most likely is reported Stolen and won't be able to be activated.

I was thinkin the same thing. The other issue is that the phone was in the rain so the white sticker dot inside the battery turned red. If in time the phone breaks and they see the dot the will not replace the phone.

Throw out the one that got returned when her purse came back. It is not covered under warrenty, and If you attempt to activate it most of the cellphone insurance companies charge you a 300-400 dollar fee for fraud.

Ah, that changes things. I'd go ahead and keep the replacement and use the other phone as a backup. If it were in the rain for a while it might not have much longer to live.

this person has the best advice. Eat the $50, cost of living. Properly dispose of the old phone (maybe contact the insurance company and explain what happened) or just dispose of it. and let it go.

The phone should work just fine if it's GSM.

Then he is selling stolden merchandise. When it is unable to be activated they are going to mess up his ebay/paypal account or a LEO might be knocking on his door.

It depends if its GSM phone or not. If it's GSM, there is no activation required, just pop the sim card in. If you're gonna use it with a different provider, you can get it unlocked.

If it isn't GSM, don't bother.

Oh, and fuck Karma. Tell it to a kid that barely had a chance to do any wrong, and gets their legs blown off for no reason.
