1984 FTW!

I lived in Harlem squatting with friends (i.e. homeless) when this movie came out. Saw the movie in Times Square on 42nd st, and two weeks later saw it in Hollywood at the Pacific theatre (I was bored on a work assignment). Totally different crowd reaction in the two theaters, especially to the electrocution scene (as LA didn't have subways then).

Looking at that video I recognize many of the street locations in the Bronx (I lived there 1986-1991). Brings back so many memories. Most of those bleak street shot locations look very different today.

I'm in NYC on a business trip tonight. How appropriate.

Haha. If you can take the beatings the customer hands out, then make the equipment work the way they want it to (regardless of whether or not it was designed to work that way) while keeping a smile on your face, then you can take my place anytime. I lived in NYC in 1983-85 (with a 9mo stint in LA's San Fernando Valley on assignment in 84-5), and from the fall of 1986 until 1991 working for NBC. Also had an apartment in NY with my ex and a house here in Chicago 2003-06.

I never liked living there. It is an interesting place to visit though. My recommendation for a visit - take lots of money, have a great time spending it, and when it's gone, come home.
