Strangers scoping out your bike...

I usually don't mind when someone's LOOKING but when someone stops their bike (with same size, make and model) in a parking lot lane, so that cars have to go around them. Dismounts and proceeds to touch and get real close...

I get pissed.

I've had 3 bikes snagged while living in Chi-town and know how fst and easy it can happen. Fortunately, I park right in front of the receptionist desk at work and they called back and said "someone's checking your bike out". It was some kid who is either the dumbest small parts thief or just waaaaay too noob to understand bike etiquette.

Fawker... He got my blood pressure up but I got all his info just in case. WTF?

Anyone else start flipping safety switches when people get too close?

Simple. Never touch another (wo)man's bike without permission.

Someone shouldn't have to "learn" bike etiquette. The same principle goes for anyone else's possessions, bike or otherwise.

I was a little too pissed when I stomped outside to think of a camera... Probably not as gratifying as the surgical stapler in my scrub pocket tho.

At least the lot is also video monitored.

It's no big surprise when you park outside a bar and you have to haul some drunk idiot off your saddle and into the ground... but sober in the middle of the day in a busy strip mall parking lot?

It never happened in my jeep when topless and doorless...

Only with the bike. It must be some sort of repressed desire to always want to be a rider but can only make up for it by sitting on a stranger's bike.

Its because people see motorcycles as toys. I've had to bitch out 2 different women before when they let their kids climb all over my bike. Both gave the usual response "Well they arent hurting it". You should see how fast they grab their spawn when I ask them if they can write a check for $30K for it then (pick a price out of air usually). They just cant comprehend that a bike ISNT a jungle gym. Little Johnny could get a serious burn, tip a 400lb bike over on them or fall off on their water head. And guess who will probably end up in court because theri kid got hurt climibing on my bike.

No I completely here ya! It's a big to be doing shit like that!

It's one thing to gaze a bit while strolling or rolling thru but I've watched the same shit happen in front of my office too. Just the other day I had some family get out of...... OF COURSE A MINIVAN! anyway kids jump out of the minivan and these careless little fuckers started slapping my bike seat and shit while these JACKASS parents don't pay attention to shit! Pissed me the hell off!!! Then I had some middle aged guy straight up STAND OVER my bike a few weeks before as he enjoyed a drag off his cigarette and stared at my bike looking at my gauges.... WTF!?

AND AGAIN -------->>>>

Personal Etiquette is to keep at least a 3 foot perimeter from the bike and admire. There's no real reason to be closer than that to someone else's bike you don't know and you can see everything you need to see from there without encroaching.

I parked my bike in a parking lot and go inside and my brother tells me some guy is sitting on my bike. I go outside and there is one guy on my bike and about 10 other guys around it. I go up to the guy bitch him out. One of his buddies is like the guy is thinking about buying a bike like mine. I tell the fucker that there is a dealership down the street and to get the fuck off my bike. Some people just don't have respect for other people's property.

I hate it. I dont mind walking by and just a quick check but to just stand there and get within 3 feet of it, no. I just stand there and stare at em wether they are looking at me or not.

ask them how they would feel if they walked out to their car and you were sitting in the seat pushing buttons and adjusting everything.

if she's hot, replace "them how they would feel if they walked out to their car and you were sitting in the seat pushing buttons and adjusting everything." with "to touch the boobies."

I recently bought an exercise bike from a classic car guy. When I was done loading the bike I asked if I could check out one of the really rare cars. He was so glad that I asked and didn't just walk into the garage that he let me take some pics, and even opened the trunk so I could snap a few shots of the motor. He said most people just walk up and start snapping away. People can be so rude!

I don't ride, I cook!

Snapping photos can't be wrong! It's a rare, classic car! Granted, it's wrong if they are opening things up and climbing inside...

As for other peoples bikes...hell, I feel like I'm invading their space if I park too close to them. Though I've found that most bikers are cool with you parking next to them as long as you look like you know how to handle your bike. If you come in all wobbly and shit they are like "great parking over there!"

I don't think I've had people hop on my bike when I'm not around, though I have found a few notes under the cargo net from neighborhood girls asking for rides with phone numbers and all...but Brianne confiscated them. :P
