Is there a bottom?

Doesn't seem that way...
Down down she (dow) goes...
Where she stops nobody knows.

Feel like a whale at a poker table with a bunch of pro's telling me to stay in... It'll turn around... Don't worry.. Just keep playing...

Just because they need us all to stay in.. Because we are financing the game... Individually we have a fraction of nothing of the big players... but they get a fraction of all of ours.. and there are many more of us than there are of them.

Funny.. When your account goes up 40-50% it's a big deal
but when it goes down 40 to 50% "no big deal, long haul, don't worry, stay the course, bear down" (ok.. I added that last one)

That said.. THinking about maxing out Roth IRA contributions for the year today... I pull 300/mo and put it in my own.. have for a few years.. but now that I am married.. I should be able to do something with Wifes.. I think it's double.. but I to be honest havent even looked into it yet.. Just came up with this possibly hair brained scheme while watching my dog take a dump on the corner... (sounds like I made that up.. Doesn't it... I didn't... Funny where you are and what your doing when you come up with ideas.. Isn't it?)

IZ dont think we will realize a bottom as long as the government keeps bailing out banks and financial firms, we are basically pulling the bandaid off slow. easier way would be to rip it right off and let these fat cats go bankrupt.

You can each open a roth IRA, there are maximums you can put in per year based on how much you make. If you make less than 160k together I think the cap is 5k per.

So I went into the office for a bit...
Had a meeting with a vendor....

Got a little bored and decided to check out the market and see if it had bounced back from the -350 or so it was at when I had went into the office....

and what do I see?

Holy Shit!

But seriously folks.. Don't panic.. Please leave all of your money in there... The people panicing need it there so they have something to pull out in their panic..

You'll be "just fine"

I'd love to have enough expendable income. I'd be like the smart money (Warren Buffet, for one) and go on a shopping spree. Everything is on sale.

159K joint for 2008 (inflation adjusted)

if you're over 50, there's a 'catchup provision' that allows you to contribute 6K in IRC 219.

The 5K is ithe ndividual limit, can do 5K for each spouse.

Should up mine.. Was maxing my 401k and my Roth (or almost.. 3600/yr.. I thought 3900 was the limit... 300/mo was a nice round $)

In any case..
Thought about running out and opening one for the missus today...
Didn't ran into the office instead..
Honestly..
I dont know what's going to happen.. Part of me says.. Wow.. That's low.. part of me says.. How low can it go before it breaks.. and when it breaks.. remember.. Your shit isn't protected.. those firms fold.. and they are just gonna keep what they dont lose.

There is no FDIC for your 401k or Roth...

You could always just go by their balance sheets too (cash on hand) and quit looking at their stock price. If a company is sitting on cash, don't sweat it. If they only survive because they continually sell worthless pieces of paper and operate at a negative cash flow... well.. you can guess the rest.

yep.

so much of this selling is completely panic driven and will eventually correct when chicken little realizes the sky isn't falling. That's why Buffet and Soros are going to become richer than God in the next few years. They know better.

I thought the bottom was 10% ago. I have no idea what to do???

GM at 5, was 14 two weeks ago
UYG financial etf was at 25 two weeks ago, now 8.5
GE was at 30 two months ago, around 20 now

I'm buying, but I've already lost a lot.

Marriott went from $48 to $18. If it hits $10 I'm going to throw all the money I can at it. I can't imagine it *not* getting back up to at least $40 when all this shyte settles.

that what I was pointing out w/ MSFT. Lots of assets compared to liabilities, and tons of cash laying around in comparison. Good balance sheet v. not-so-good.
