looking for tower and closed mall

this was in the 80s. I believe it was in Illinois. I believe both things are in the same town.

There was a 3-4 story high cylinder shaped concrete? tower. There was stairs on the inside that you can walk all the way up. I remember there was cutouts to peak your head out.

I can't remember the mall that well. It looked like a barn? When you entered it had those swinging doors like a western bar. We went there maybe 3 years later. Went to a restaurant across the street for a wiz break. Ask the waitress, where the mall was at? She said it burned down.

I can ask my dad, but Im bored n sick right now, and surfing the web didn't bring up anything with those keywords.

Illinois is pretty big, can you narrow it down a little?
How high were you when you climbed to the top?

That's what I meant.

Was it by any chance the indoor amusement park known as Old Chicago in Bolingbrook?

my dad went in the tower. The tallest it could have been was as high as a water tower.

closest thing I've come up with is Peoria Heights, Illinois. But that tower has an elevator to get to the top. Not sure if there always was an elevator. I remember my dad going up stairs. And he only went half way up.

Next to or near the mall/store was a railroad. And i remember coming back and they tore the tracks out. Leaving a deep long trail through the woods.

Old chicago was b4 my time.

I think Old Chicago closed in the early 80s. I heard it was a big shit hole.

I came here to drink some beer and kick some ass. And it looks like we are all out of beer.

no. I do wanna check that out.

It is shaped like a paper towel roll. Had stairs in it. Small windows, somewhat like a castle, so you can peak out while going up the stairs.

It was not that bad. I used to get free passes and rode the Chicago Loop Roller Coaster 40 times in one day.

I know a guy that was in the Old Chicago commercials as a kid, he was the one in the roller coaster screaming. I've been looking for a clip of it but can't find it.

So Tony was the fastest in Illinois. But I was getting good. I wanted to challenge Tony for lids. So we were suppose to race at the dragstrip and Tony would bow down his crown of Illinois and stop racing forever. So on my practice, my fiero blew a tire and I wrecked into the wall. My team and I tried to fix the fiero but it was to far gone. So Kid rock shows up with a fiero on his rollback. He says, I want you to take tony out, you can use my ride. Since the drag strip was no longer available. We went out to a farm and were going to race on a gravel road.

Tony in his mr2 and me in Kid rocks fiero. we got off the line never losing traction on the gravel road. And both of us started getting tunnel vision and our cars were going in slow motion. We were nose to nose the entire time. Tony was thinking that its time to let it go and pass it down to his internet son. Tony backs off the throttle letting me win. I win the race and believed my fiero was faster than tony's mr2. We both hugged and I got Tony's lid.

I do remember my dad going in a tower but it isn't as important as finding out where the mall use to be. I'm going to check frankfort out and see if i can get any info of the mall at the historical center.

I run by the Gainery all the time, they were going to tear it down a few yrs ago.
Frankfort has a historical society that may be helpful.
Also, the Will County Farm Bureau has old aerial pictures available.
I'll post the info in the am when I get home from work.

thanks

I don't see much history on the internet. I did find the grainery was on fire three times. The last being in 1984. So I had to be there in 83 or 84. amazing I can remember when I was that young. And my favorite thing was looking down the rail road tracks. And years later, it was just pathway with no tracks that seemed to go forever.

When I keep on looking at the grainery. I think the mall was attached to the grainery. Maybe the entrance to the mall was in the grainery.

Tony's my internet dad. Odysseys my big brother. Tony let me win because he has no time to race anymore. Odyssey and I would pour beer into the server and Tony has to fix it all the time. One time I bought odyssey some sneezing powder, and odyssey put it in tony's helmet. Ody and I have to wear books in our pants because Tony takes his belt off and whips us a good one cuz were just two crazy scalawags.
