Jury duty?

Just curious how the "system" works in regards to folks that truly are unable to serve. Despite responding to the questionaire with valid reasons why they cannot attend they still are called upon. Good luck trying to call and get an explanation. I am not one to avoid this civic duty unless the reasons are valid.

A few examples of such reasons to not serve...

-Stay at home mom/dads raising their kids and unable to find/afford a babysitter? Can they just show up with the child?
-Sickness?....what if the person is sick? What if their child is sick?
-Pregnant?...after the third trim-mester it's awfully uncomfortable.

What exactly is the penalty for not showing up?

You can usually reschedule in DuPage for stuff like that. Dunno if they've changed that much since the guy that ran the jury commission retired not too long ago though.

I'm betting a doctors note confirming bedrest would work.

Oprah was given a car ride by the police for her jury duty. Well, they arrested her for blowing it off.

you can reschedule in cook too.

When I got picked. They asked us couple of questions to select us in the court room. Few people tried to get out of it. But it didn't work. "yes I'm racist" judge would say, but we don't have any asians being prosecuted. Your staying.

We had a guy that was 90% deaf made it up to selection. Took the judge a while to tell him to go home when he couldn't hear the last 30 minutes of jury selection.

got subway sandwhich from the patio for lunch. thank you tax payers FTW

Rescheduling and doctor's notes are only delaying the obligation. Can yuy delay it 10 years until you dont need a babysitter?

Btw, a doctors note might not get her rescheduled it might get her excused. which means she wouldnt have to go again till she wins the jury lottery again.
