I don't think lasers will make it to the stores this holiday season. And even if they will, it's too new.

Where's it going? In the FR to replace that monster RP? Are you gonna wall mount it? Do you have good light control?

1080p is a must in my mind for BR but only DTV has it and its only for Ondemand so far.

After owning a DLP(RP) for ~4-5 years I cannot recommend another one unless you want something 65" or bigger and dont care about portability or wall mounting.

I think something like this would make you very happy...I have the 58"

i know, my last big t.v. i bought was 10g, you think that t.v. might drop 50% according to the price drops coming? "which is my main thing. my current tv is maybe 6-7 years old and i spent 10G and its almost obsolete.

I don't think the type of tv you want will drop 50% by the end of the year. those fit in a niche market if you will. the common place mid size lcds and plasmas and small lcds will because those are the most popular ones, and as the article states, available everywhere.

you don't see mercedes offering employee pricing right now do you? but gm sure is, and multiple times at that.

+1 on the Pioneer recommendations but they do not go 70" yet. That is going to be some bucks. I have two flat panels, 50" Elite that is three years old and is not 1080P and a Sony 52" LCD that is 1080P. The Pioneer still blows away the Sony in everything except when playing a Bluray movie. I never hooked up the Bluray player to the Pioneer since it was not 1080P.

The Plasma has a smoother and crisper picture. I saw a Pioneer 60" for $3,900 but it was not an elite. There should be some good deals around the Holidays but 70" will be tough unless you go projector.

thanks for the opinions and suggestions guys. my main issue for the family room is not to go smaller. i have really become accustomed to watching a 73" but of course i like watching good quality picture. maybe the size requirements dont allow it in a flat panel "also i am not rich" so cost can also be a factor.

maybe projector in 1080p?

I think if you want something around 70'', your only choice is 72'' Samsung DLP. That's what I have and after a year of ownership, I'm very happy with it. Only one thing I don't like is connecting a PC. I'm still having troubles with fixing the overscan issue, even though there is the dedicated DVI input. May be I'm doing something wrong, I haven't spend much time on it.

Yes, LCD/Plasma would look better. But at 72'' it's the only thing that is priced reasonably and it's better than a projector.

If you're at 72 now you should just go front projection and get a 102. How well can you control the light in the room?

a projector will be a pain during the day since the kitchen lets in a good amount of light.

Ken, I suggest you also put one on your bathroom, you can always rationalize this with the "50% off means I can get one for the Bedroom and bath for the same price"

Then you can take those long power-craps without having to miss a single second of your favorite show...or if they take long enough, get a quick forza race in

It's hard going from a large tv to something smaller. If you go the smaller tv route, might I suggest moving the couches closer to the tv? Craigslist your old (I think you have a ) Pioneer. Plenty of people, especially bars, would buy your old tv.

More importantly, have you found S.W.A.T. On blu-ray yet?
