Motorcyclist jailed for YouTube speeding stunt

A precedent has now been set, so all those that love posting their stunts and speeding on YouTube should be wary.

All it takes is a cager to phone in and a search on YouTube.

http://tech.yahoo.com/news/nm/200810...st_tech_life_2

LONDON (Reuters) - A British motorcyclist who posted footage of himself performing dangerous stunts and speeding at up to 130 mph (209 kph) on YouTube was given a 12-week jail term on Monday.

Sandor Ferenci, 28, performed wheelies, skids and raced on the opposite side of the road around Banbury, Oxfordshire, in June this year and then put the footage on the video-sharing website.

Ferenci, who admitted two counts of dangerous driving at a previous hearing was jailed at Oxford Crown Court and disqualified from driving for two years, the Press Association reported.

He will have to take an extended driving test before he is allowed on the road again.

Prosecutor Brian Payne said a motorist who saw Ferenci's antics on the A422 Banbury to Brackley road took down his registration number and later contacted police.

When officers called at his home, Ferenci asked them: "Is this about the YouTube video?"

Judge Terence Maher told Ferenci he had performed "lunatic and grossly irresponsible manoeuvres at considerable speed."

The footage, which was played to the court, had been filmed by a friend from various angles including from a footbridge.

Ferenci's lawyer Gary Bell said his client, who works as a carer for an elderly woman, had read a story about a child who died as a result of a motorcycle accident and now understood the ramifications of his actions.

"He is truly remorseful for what he has done and is truly sorry," he told the court.

Good thing DuPage states attorney's haven't come up with this yet. I think this is unlikely to happen here. The prosecution would have a termendous burded to overcome to be sucessful at trial. Simply don't time date the video if you want to post.

They don't really have the time or inclination to put that kind of effort into a single case in the misdemeanor division, from what I've seen.

When you've got 10-20 cases on the trial call every morning, f'in around looking for youtube vids isn't going to happen.

Not to mention, the procedure for getting it admitted over a foundation objection would be damn near impossible. The RoE are alot different in the UK.

I didn't see the image. I guess the only way you could say that its not you (in the UK) if you declared your bike stolen. Big +1 on the douchebag part.

psh...FTW FTW!!! how about them apples johnny?

i could have sworn i caught a thread somewhere recently (here or a major kawasaki forum) that discussed what had been established in a court case for trying somebody for operating a motorcycle inappropriately on the road. as a result of the operator wearing full gear "protecting his identity" he was able to get off on a technicality.

any law guys here willing to provide any insight? i'm curious how they approach a stunt like this.
