I know it is a chuckle, but this is why 25 people were killed in California due to an engineer testing while operating. Starting the 27th of this month, if our phone, cd, DVD player is turned on while the train is moving, the government will fine us between $500 and $20k. Is it worth risking your life and others?

Those are some hefty fines. I'm glad they are getting serious about it. I wonder how long before they have the same laws for cars.

It is already illigal to text and drive. And those fines I mentioned are not paid buy the company, those are fines we personally have to pay.

It's a side affect of the economy of the last 10 years. back in 2000 we had over 7000 employees, since then we have bought 5 other compnaies and grown exponentially now we have 3000 employees, and they cut our overtime. only so many hours in the day, buit they dont realize that and give us deadlines for stuped shit like watching videos on ergonomics

Awesome company to work for. They want you to risk your life and those of others by mulitasking while driving a 6k pound vehicle. Where do I sign up? Im not blaming Tony, just goes to show how much some of these companies care about their employees.

No...it's Tony's choice to perform those tasks while driving.

When my boss calls and I'm in the car, I ignore it. He gave me grief about it once and I just set him straight...I DON"T TALK ON THE PHONE WHILE DRIVING. End of discussion. He's not given me shit about it since.

Thing is, I'm in the same boat as Tony when it comes to tasks and projects. I'm on a conference call while I type this, finishing up a report on a project, and sending an E-mail to upper management about another project...and dreaming of my week off in November...

I don't have a hands-free phone, drive a stick shift, and take twisty backroads to and from work. My wife always wants to know why I want to get off the phone with her when she calls and wants to tell me about her entire day minute by minute when I'm going to see her in 10 minutes.

If I have a hands-free device I'd have no problem talking and driving. It's no different than talking to a passenger.

Watching vids/texting/emailing while driving? Stay away from my car... wow.

Why do woman always freaking do this? My wife is the same way, finally she gave up and now her and her sister talk their entire drives home even though they we live like 5 minutes apart.

I find it amusing that the same people who brag about doing that shit are the same people who criticize others for listening to music while riding.

irony? this is irony

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Student volunteers from colleges around New York State braved freezing cold temperatures on their bikes Wednesday to send a message to state and federal political candidates: pay attention to climate change.
The New York Public Interest Research Group helped organize the ride. Environmentalists cheered on the bikers as they stopped in Utica around noon. They want candidates to let voters know what they plan to do about global warming and the energy crisis.

or
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Al Gore returned to his alma mater to help Harvard University launch its new greenhouse gas reduction effort.

The former vice president and 1969 Harvard graduate, told a campus audience on Wednesday that it's time to find ways to make better use of knowledge to save the global environment.

Riffing off Harvard's Latin motto of "truth," he said the challenge is to find truth in the climate crisis and "use that as a basis of a new concept of who we are."

Mr Al Gore, who is famous for his big house, jet, and the so-called Gore effect. Dictionaries explain the term as

The phenomenon that leads to unseasonably cold temperatures, driving rain, hail, or snow whenever Al Gore visits an area to discuss global warming. Hence, the Gore Effect.
It seems to be working again:

Thursday night (the day after ... the speech), the temperature in Cambridge is forecast to drop below the freezing point to 28 F which, if true, will beat the record low temperature set in 1883, which means exactly 125 years ago, when it was 29 F.
