Any skydivers here?

I need to do some research on a Virginia jump school for Tina.

http://www.skydiveorange.com

Any idea how to best go about checking into if they are a good safe place to go? She is planning on jumping in two weeks.

TIA -

Its not a good sign when you start a Google search with "skydive orange" and it autofills "death" "accident" "collision".

Not sure how it ranks relatively, but Id investigate further.

I've jumped with that group a few times. Three times last summer. Very friendly and knowledgable people. Very serious about safety, too. In fact, they kicked two guys out of a jump due to behavior I thought was actually not bad but they felt was an issue.FYI, I have about 400 jumps under my belt. it was my major hobby before sport bikes..

Are you looking for an AFF/AFP program or something more advanced? Or are you just looking for a place for her to do one "fun" jump?

If she's doing a tandem I would feel comfortable with any of the bigger guys. If you are looking for a good place close to here I Have know Keith, the owner of skydive midwest for a long time, and they specialize in tandem. The only problem is it's a bit cold up here for jumping right now.

Thanks, everyone! I'm going to be jumping near DC...that won't be unbearably cold, will it? I've never been there and have no idea what to expect (never mind the jumping out of a plane for the first time part...).

Any other random tips? Things you wish they'd told you before your first jump?

Most fatalities are from solo jumps, not tandems. Tandems instructors are super pros. They are required to have a gazillion jumps b4 taking out other ppl ; ) and u can always run a google search on the drop zone ; ) oowwhh and the drop zone is supposed to be able to openly tell u of all their fatalities. the drop zone in Hinckley IL has none ; )

Drop Zone ranked them very well, and I have talked to a few friends in the area that have them highly ranked.... so without further adieu... my daughter is gonna jump out of a perfectly good airplane of her own free will.

Color me jealous.

Skydiving is tons of fun. The only drawback it's a bit expensive.

That's when you base jump (and hope you don't get buffeted into whatever you're jumping off lol)

I've always wanted to skydive, but with one of those flying squirrel suits

It is as addicting as bike riding. You will love it, especially the first 5 seconds out of the plane.

It may be more addicting than the bike. That adrenalin rush is like nothing else, you know how people say something is better than sex. Well jumping may actually be...

I made about 20 solo, mostly static line sport jumps when I was your age. My first time out the door the instructor leaned over and whispered in my ear, "This will be the greatest thrill you will ever have with your clothes on!"

She was totally correct. Have fun!
