Anchorage International Airport TSA

I'm in Anchorage right now waiting for my flight back to Chicago. I was just talking to a couple guys here and earlier in the week a girl got busted with a hand gun going through TSA. You only need to go through TSA here if you are flying one of the major carriers (south terminal). The north terminal has all the smaller carriers like ERA Aviation, Pen Air, Frontier and all the smaller private bush planes.

Anyway. The way the story goes is. You are allowed to pack heat on any of the small carriers. Actually they don't even check your carry on luggage. I'm not sure if they (the airlines) even go through or screen your checked luggage. That's fucked up because I have been all over this state on ERA Aviation and a lot of other small private bush planes. It's like the wild west compared to the lower 48 up here. So anyway, this girl gets off one of the smaller planes and decides she wants to go to the gift shop which is in the south terminal. Because she has a legitimate ticket even though its for the north terminal she can come through. The poor girl forgets she has her gun in her purse. So she gets arrested and hauled off to jail. Bummer to because if you get busted by TSA with a gun or weapon or explosive you are now on a "black ball" list. Every time she books any major airplane ticket she will have to go through extra screening.

If you live out in the bush up here in Alaska it is almost mandatory you have a gun because of bears and other big animals. Sucks for her.

Thanks for reading. I'm bored at the bar drinking beer, surfing the internet.

Continental uses the north terminal....and you certainly can't pack heat on Continential

And you can have firearms on all the carriers...you just have to check them, and declare them. So..... why did she have to have it on her person? Was she really that stupid?

Nick, are you SURE you aren't doing this girl?

Alison, You are correct. I have flown Continental and US Airways out of the North Terminal. But if you go downstairs there is Pen Air and ERA Aviation. That is the part of the North Terminal I am talking about. There is no TSA down there. On the upper part of the North Terminal there is TSA on the bottom there is not. It's where all the local, smaller prop planes fly in and out.

once you're blacklisted, you're fubarred for life

I know pilots who's names are the same as blacklisted people, and they still can't get through security easy either

You are correct about that. I didn't realize there was no TSA in that bottom section. Interesting. Also, thank you for spelling my name correctly; I appreciate your attention to detail whilst you are drinking.

Too bad, it looks like our trips barely missed. If you have been there last weekend you could have partaken in the great "4 pounds of seafood and only beer exceeding 8% alcohol" debacle of 2008.

yuck! in my life, i've yet to find anything that lives in water to taste good. however, if you add booze with alcohol content that high, i would probably give the food a try after a few hours of drinking.
