Price is Right: Airline Edition

So I broke a plane last week...here's what happened

to the right of my seat is the quick-donning oxygen mask

you just squeeze those 2 red tabs in the middle and pull, the top doors open as you yank the mask out and put it on in under 2 seconds...

as you can see at the bottom of the pic (it's facing downwards) is the bin where we put our kitbags...

so when I pulled my very heavy kitbag out of the tight spot it sits, the edge of the kitbag snagged the left door of the O2 mask compartment (they don't sit very flush) and proceeded to launch the door across the cockpit, breaking it off...

sample pic of one with the door open (not broken off)

that door grounded the plane for a few hours and the mechanic then told me how much it cost to replace it...

Guess that price!!

Figured it looked French. It looked a lot like the A319/320 setup. Bombardier is French canadian. Close enough.

that's surprisingly cheap! i remember seeing posters in an airline's ops office titled "So You Want To Buy A Regional Jet" that pointed out costs of commonly damaged CR7 components. if i'm not mistaken, the flaps were the most expensive in the $150,000 range.

The winglets on the 50 seater that get damaged all the time by bag carts are 100K, and have to be replaced as a set.
