Here's the 14 stores that are shutting down. I'm not sure to what extent the liquidations will be, but it could be worthwhile to check out and snag a deal or two.

I doubt the sales will be too great. They are better off sending merchandise to other stores. Might be able to get good deals on display models though.

I imagine that there'll be a lot of 'redundant' stock that they'll want to liquidate though, like DVDs, vs higher end stuff which can still be moved at other stores. Like most liquidations, the initial discounts will be moderate, then when inventory drops, they'll make even bigger cuts on what little is left.

That sucks. I really don't care about CC they have sucked since they stopped paying their employees commission and took their product mix downmarket in the 90's. But, losing Tweeter is a real bummer, there's not a lot of brick and morter companies doing higher end AV anymore.

I would definitely use up any CC gift cards if you have them laying around. This is probably pretty close to the end for CC, so those cards will be useless if they go under. I think I still have a $10 from when I bought GTA IV in my car.

Great, now that just leaves Best Buy and American TV in Madison if they close Madison 2 CC's. Id ont see why they would, both are usually at least 50% packed normally.

Losing Tweeter does suck... Best Buy has Magnolia going head to head with them now but they carry a quarter of what Tweeter does.

CC was going down hill for a while competing with Best Buy and now Walmart, Target, ect.. CC tried the whole Best Buy business model a few years ago but their stores were puny compared to Best Buy. There was nothing to set them apart.

my reply was in answer to the question about getting higher end stuff since Tweeter was known for that. It all depends on your tastes. Crutchfield doesn't really specialize in higher end equipment.

Seems your definition of high end is different. I stay with know brand like jlaudio and BA who fall into the high end. All of which can be purchased via CF or tweeter and or abt.

If i had it my way i would install Bose all the way around but they dont do car speakers

Circuit City on Friday was still being really stingy on most things. Not selling display models yet, and max was 10% on anything people actually want. Tweeter in Schaumburg has guys with those "UP TO 40%" signs all over, but I have found up to usually means the little 5 buck connectors or the back of screws is 40%.
