Yes he should. Pick something you care about, find the canidate who agrees with you, and vote for him.

Though I did not vote for judges because I did not have the cheat sheet with me so Rod is right too.

Dodges lightning bolt for agreeing with Rob in a political thread.

You'd think a guy with an Ayn Rand quote in big letters in his sig line would agree with me more.

I did vote for the judges, as I had looked up info about them on-line. There was one however that I would have supported but his campaign called my house about 30 times in the last week from a cell phone. It was a recording, and if you hung up and tried to make an outgoing call, it would still be on the line. When I tried calling it back it went to voicemail, and of course the mailbox was full. I refused to vote for someone that was that much of a pest, and then wasn't available to answer any questions or to be available to remove me from the call list.

I don't ride, I cook!

Economists disagree. There is alot off reason to be ignorant. Its called rational ignorance.

Short version: since your vote doesn't really matter, there isn't any gain in spending much time getting up to speed on the issues. Therefore its totally rational to have your attitude.

Voting is a right, not an obligation. Like gun ownership. Everyone (except felons in most states, like guns) has a right to own arms. Whether everyone should is another question.

I'd wager that I know more about the issues and politics (the actual politics, not the social agendas) than 95% of the people that voted yesterday.

I didn't vote. I've never voted. The right to abstain from a "lesser of two evils" decision is patriotic in my opinion. (as is the right to an opinion)

Thank you all you brilliant little patriots that voted emotionally for whichever candidate or party rhetoric that you most aligned your tiny little life with. You've managed to save us ignorant non-voters from ourselves once again!

PS - I know there are a number of VERY politically involved/savvy members on this board. I think that CLSB is an exception in this case, as the cross section of America doesn't have quite this many smart people.

Just remember, not voting doesn't necessarily mean we don't know how to work the levers.

Underdog,

I respect your personal choice to vote or not but do offer the following: You can vote for ANYONE for President; not just the 2 *-wads from the 2 primary parties.

I did not like them either but instead chose to vote for a different party in hopes of adding to the popular vote to elevate them to receiving federal campaign funds for future elections.... just to stir the pot down the road.

Everyone Exaggerates

I like that kind of passive aggression Arch. Perhaps I'll do that next time around. I'd love to see the day when we can move beyond a two party system. Perhaps this is the first step toward a functional change - or at the very least a way to get the little sticker and stop being browbeaten by my fellow citizens.

While I agree that you have a right not to exercise your vote, I can't understand why anyone would want to let the other idiots make these decisions for them. (After all, they do such a good job, don't they?)

I guess I'm too ornery to let others run my life any more than I have to. To me, not voting is willingly releasing any (infinitesimal) control I have over the processes that have tremendous control over my range of opportunities in life.
