I was just talking to my friend (a hunter) about this kind of thing today. I asked him wouldn't it be ironic if you hunted all day and didn't get any deer but on the way home you struck and killed one. He said "I'd process it, free meat". I hope your car didn't get damaged too much.

I've had it a couple of times, wasn't impressed. However, it was cooked by Indians and they don't each much deer in India.

I went bicycle riding along East river road /Bryn mawr
there were 20 or more deer in a field about 50 yards away from the main road.
I pass by there all the time on my Motorcycle or car and had no idea they were there. I was talking to someone in the neighborhood and they said they wander onto the road all the time.

Sorry to hear about your truck.

Not knowing anything about this.
Is it ok legally to keep the deer ?
and is it still good ?

the deer just wanted to end it all so it committed suicide by jumping in front of your truck...it had enough of the living life in free plains and having nothing but sex and all it can eat food...it just couldnt take it anymore...lol

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

Sorry about your truck, but yeah, if you have to run over a deer that's probably the best way to do it.

Section 2.26 of the Illinois Wildlife Code says no, not without an exemption. 520 ILCS 5/2.26.

However, IDNR says yes with restrictions.

Happy eating.

full coverage - no probs with insurance, my truck was full of t6061 aluminum tooling in the back, so I couldnt load it in and I didnt have any straps to throw it on the roof - the officer said I could take it if I wanted it- Venison Chili FTW!

I've often wondered about this. if you hit a deer, how long do you have to get it to a butcher before it's not safe to eat. Also would one be worried about internal organs bursting from the accident and contaminating the meat?

Wouldn't you notice a busted internal organ when you are cutting the deer?
