Secret Service

Anyone working downtown notice the very visible presence of the Secret Service around the Federal bldgs @ Clark & Jackson these past few weeks?

It's pretty surreal to walk past about 10-20 G-men, knowing they are arguably the most elite security teams in the world with pretty much anything and everything at their disposal. I dare not snap a cell phone picture for fear of getting tossed in Gitmo, lol.

Last night, around 6:30PM, I went from I-55 to I-294 heading north, and noticed that there were state troopers blocking all southbound access to I-294 from the Oasis there. There were also IDOT trucks blocking each of the turnaround gaps. I had no idea what the hell was going on and when I reached the toll plaza, noticed that troopers had diverted all traffic to the manual lanes and blocked the exit to those off as well. As I neared O'Hare, I finally figured out what was going on, as a massive motorcade of at least a dozen vehicles, hauled south on a now fully deserted I-294.

I felt bad for everyone else who got screwed over, as I saw traffic was completely frozen on I-88, I-290, I-90, and I-294 north of O'Hare.

America's Funniest Police Chases
Coming soon to Chicago

I heard they aren't even letting police cars within 6 blocks of his house without being fully checked out

That's a pretty populated area ....
I would say "wow, that's gonna kill home values.. Who would want to live there and deal with that?" Then I thought of all those people who live in gated communities with armed guards.. That would be like heaven.. Wouldn't it?
Their friends, family, and all of their neighbors having to go through the equivalent of heightened airport security (up to and possibly including the body cavity search) each and every time they come into the neighborhood?

I bet local crime is going to be waaay down... I wouldn't want to be robbing a house with 100 secret service guards and attack helicopters on the ready guarding the neighborhood...

And the best part of it is.. It's on the south side.. Anyone who knows the city how that area is.. To quote Denis Leary (he was speaking of New York.. but in any case)

I was forced to stay on I-290 at the 290/294 junction heading home to Indiana. I thought it was an accident ahead until I saw the caravan. Even had an ambulance.

I take the train and rarely drive on the highway so I don't think this is going to be a problem for me.

I can see that now

They would have to shut down both Ohare and Midway for 3 hours before and 3 hours after each flight.. So say he flies out at 8AM and home at 6PM every day (benefit of the doubt.. We'll say he is gonna be a hard worker)

So that 2 airports.. 1 of them being one of the busiest airports in the world would be shut down from 5am till 11am and then 3pm till 9pm 5 days a week

That would be funny as hell.. Not just for Chicago, it'd f*ck up flights all over the country and the world (imagine all the connecting flights)

That said... No way..
I hope he isn't as dirty or selfish as blago

Gotta admit, it did take some balls to run his whole campaign from Chicago. Most folks running are suck ups and base their campaign in some swing state that they never even visited. Kinda cool to put Chicago back on the map as a political powerhouse.

I used to live on the top floor of marina city.. west tower.. facing south...
GWB used to come into town and stay at the Renaissance hotel .. somewhat often... I always found it amusing, from up there you could see the massive security detail, road closures, .. everything... and I was sitting out on my balcony thinking I could totally hit him with an egg from here

To fly it from DC here would put the hours on it's maintenance cycle so it would be out of service for a day or two or you would have to cargo it to Ohare and rebuild it like they do overseas. Either way it was never done.

Plus you would never get a secure approach to meigs in a slow moving chopper.
