Ditching Sprint for AT&T Wireless?

So I've been a long time customer of Nextel, which was eventually absorbed by Sprint... and have been rather "meh" with them since. My contract is up next month, and I think I'm ready to tell them to go to hell and move on.

I've been running a Treo 800w, which is an okay phone but as a power user, its quirks drive me nuts. I've been eyeing the HTC Touch Pro as my next phone, and currently only Sprint and AT&T offer it, which is why I'm now looking at AT&T as my new carrier.

I use a lot of 'net and SMS, and don't talk all that much. The daunting thing is that stuff like unlimited text is insanely expensive. To get 450 minutes a month, plus unlimited text and 5GB of data, it's going to cost me close to $100 a month!!! I pay Sprint about $60/month for 900 minutes, unlimited everything else.

Wanted to ask folks who have AT&T Wireless what their thoughts are on them? Any good sources of discounts? I can get a corporate one via Lehman, but am curious if they'll even honor it since Lehman went tits up. Any thoughts folks?

I've had AT&T and have had no problems with it. Plus the rollover minutes are nice.

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin', and hook up with them later!!

I believe your corporate has a list of service providers it gets discounts with or you can call or stop by an ATT store and see if they offer a discount for your company. I switched from USCellular to ATT.
The Plans for ATT are very expensive and I don't notice a big difference. If anything I lost out. USCellular offered better pricing + the voice codec was better (clearer). I'm just glad I have ATT for personal and Helio for business. If you travel outside major cities, I'd truly recommend staying with CDMA vs. GSM.
It also comes down to you and what you're exactly looking for. If you want to change phones out alot SIM (GSM) makes it easier vs CDMA. It's all prefences.

*noticed you said you use a lot of net. Well then, I'd say maybe stay with your carrier. Since Sprint & Verizon run on 3G and has a bigger network (3G wise) then Tmobile or ATT.

It's expensive but I have been happy with the unlimited Sprint $100 package and blackberry pearl. They can give you the same new customer (or better) discount to switch directly to Sprint only service. Nextel with sprint does suck. FWIW.

How is it blind when someone has a good experience with a device and a carrier?

With a click of a button, I just placed my order via Wirefly.com. Presuming there's no issues with AT&T approving me before 2PM today, my new AT&T Fuze should ship out tonight and be in my hands tomorrow!

Buh bye Sprint... you just lost another long-time customer, thanks to your crappy network. Good going!

Same here.

Unfortunately, I switched to T-Mobile. I have spotty service both at work and at home with them. Come February, I'm making the jump to AT&T or Verizon.

I'm on an AT&T program that I signed on to back in like 2002. It's only $35 a month, and doesn't exist anymore...they keep pushing me up upgrade my phone and my plan to some $60+ thing.

I'm happy where I'm at, except with all the SMS lately (BEK! and Dave13!!) I blew way over my 100 message limit and more than doubled my bill last month!

Anywho, AT&T is OK service...customer service I find to be really hit or miss...I'd put it on par with Comcast unfortuantely.

I switched from Verizon to AT&T mainly for the iPhone. I would say they are equal in the Chicagoland area. I have the unlimited plan for $100.00 or whatever. Love it. great service so far.

I was on Sprint's $89 900 minutes Everything plan. It wasn't the monthly cost killing me, but Sprint's SMS delay.

Ever since I joined CLSB, my SMS consumption has gone from a few hundred a month to 2000+.

i have sprint now and am paying $40 a month for unlimited data, unlimited text, 450 anytime minutes, pic mail....and this is with taxes.

i called and bitched a couple of times, and i get a discount because i work for nissan. but the crappy thing is, i want to change my phones, and they wont work with me on the price because i still have another year left in my contract. i too want to ditch and go to att with my brother on a family plan. it might be a bit more, but they are willing to work with me on a phone price and i think they have better coverage.

I have had the instinct for the past 6 months and I couldnt be happier with it. I always thought that the internet and emailing shit would be slow as hell and just a pain in the ass on phone but after having this phone, I am amazed how fast it is. ive never had anything but problems with At&t, i had their service for years because i was on my parents plan and my calls would be dropped about 50% of the time. I also would sent texts that would be received hours after i sent them. this kind of shit would happen on a daily basis. FUCK at&t

I spent 30% of my money on fast cars, 30% on women, and 30% on booze. The other 10% I wasted.

fuk tmobile. i went to their store and all i got was the shaft. no customer service to help me out. the prices on the plans are a little high, and they dont get service in our basement. both att and sprint get service...full bars.

i like the g1, but if it was a bit cheaper plan and if they did give corporate discounts id be happier with it, but they dont, so i wont even consider them for now.

It's like that with any phone company. You will only get a discount when you either sign up for a new contract or renew. Companies don't make money giving out free/discounted phones.
