Ever bust your ribs up?

I crashed at Autobahn going into turn 7 back in August. Tucked the front at a good clip and ended up sliding underneath the bike quite a ways. We put the bike back together and rode the rest of the weekend but man oh man are my ribs bothering me still. I had a full x ray done and they didn't find anything wrong but they sure are tender still. I can still ride fine and do every day work and things with no problems but when I sit a certain way I can feel exactly where they are bruised or damaged. Fucking motorcycles, why in the hell do I ride those dangerous things so much.

yep if you got examined and all is fine, it will take a month or so, broke a few ribs? you get nothing but a chest wrap and 3-6 months of pain that you have to deal with till they fuse.

You may have torn the cartlage that holds the ribs in place. That may not show up on an x-ray.

I know of what you speak, Nick. In my experience it was several months before I didn't feel it...In my case the doctors concluded that the cartilage between my ribs popped out of place and then right back in...nothing broken, but, my oh my...painful! My brother is an MD, and he said that I would have been better off if I had broken my ribs, soft tissue and cartilage injuries are much slower to heal. I couldn't sleep on my left side for at least 3 months, and it was 6 + months before it was 100%. You're far enough away from the original injury that application of heat can sooth and will bring blood to the area to aid in healing. 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off with a heating pad for a couple hours a few nights a week might help. Lucky you're young, might shorten the time you feel it...I was about 43 or 44 when I had this injury...the older you are, the longer it takes...But, no matter what, I'll NEVER consider giving up Bikes until I'm just too old and frail to swing my leg over and hold one up!

i went over the handlebars on my old ass RM125 like 6 years ago, and my left side ribs are still tender.

fell off some rollerblades 2 years ago on the right side, and actually went in like 3 days after it happened due to bad spasms and needing pain meds, those are just peachy now. no pain or tenderness.

my guess is the cartilage that holds them together on the left side grew back funny, or never did.

needless to say, broken or banged up ribs suck ass.

I think of pain as a reminder that I'm still alive. I'm at the Rogue Pub in Astoria Oregon drinking my bruised ribs away with a snifter of barley whine. Yummy.

Nick, if you are in Astoria, WA? you must go to the Columbian Cafe for a meal. It's on the main drag and has red and white stripes as 'decor' outside. The place is legendary. A little scary looking, but truly amazing. Make sure Uriah the owner is cooking, and do try the jalapeno jellys. I met you on a flat four tour for some credibility

I broke ribs twice. Once getting thrown off of a sportbike(the reason I don't own one now) and once in a match fight with a little black belt. I guess he got that belt for something. Anyway, I didn't have them taken care of like I SHOULD HAVE. I just sat in my comfy chair for 4 days before I could get up. Then I taped my chest and went about my business in pain. The guys are right about how long it takes to not feel the pain. I still felt it 6 months later. You're much younger, they should heal faster. Go get looked at by a doc if you have insurance just in case.(good) Don't want to take a chance of puncturung a lung.(bad) Heal up quick.

Ugg, too many times. Brused, seperated, torn... No breaks that I know of. They can hurt for years. Sucks.

I've broken my ribs twice. Once last year from going down on the bike and again last week from who knows what. Personally, it's not painful and more of an annoyance from not being comfortable in certain positions. Sounds exactly like you described. Then again I have an extremely high pain tolerance so who knows.

Maybe the Dr missed it on the x-rays? Happens a lot. Not much you can do about it anyways so just drink the pain away.

Yeah- I jacked my ribs up pretty bad when I was a kid falling down a flight of stairs. On top of my backpack. With the giant fucking textbooks in it. I'm sure I looked like a spazz. But yeah, that fucking SUCKED. Every basic thing hurt.

Although there was a Bio teacher of mine who broke her sternum in a car accident and she said that was the most painful two months of her life.

I used to keep my old man's gas cap from his Harley that he got killed on in my motorcycle jacket pocket but I fell down trying to do a stoppie once and the thing empailed into my side. Now I just keep it in the tail of my bike.

I've broken and busted up plenty of things playing hockey, racing motorcycles and screwing around. I have a funny pop in my neck quite a bit, my rotator cuff on my right shoulder bothers me, both my elbows have bone chips in them, my left ankle is still busted, I broke my hand 2 years ago at buffalo, I've had a hyper extended knee and elbow and for some reason the left side of my upper back has a funny crink now and then but nothing compares to these busted up fucking ribs....
