blackberry storm..

Damnit, I wanted one, guess they will be sold out fast. as in..current waiting list 3x above that of supply coming in, who knows when we'll get more

Btw, most places are first come first serve, so if you want one, i'd head out early....unless you want to pay some outrageous prices on ebay.

Speaking of ebay...I feel bad for whoever gets scammed from the 0 rating seller, claiming to sell an "unlocked" storm before it has been released yet?? Ummm, i'm pretty sure if it's produced as a feature phone for only 1 company, which runs on the cdma network no less (no sim cards..have to be programmed), it's going to at least take till after it's released to do that

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Blackberry-S...1%7C240%3A1307

anyone know if VZW phones are even able to be unlocked? I guess it's a possibility, considering it comes with a global SIM card pre-installed..

I guess he could try the "I said in my auction to buy from a seller with 100% feedback if you actually wanted one"

I'd at least wait for reviews. If it sucks, you'd be stuck for a couple years with a crappy phone.

i read the ebay ad, it was 'interesting'. The answers to both questions were the same, but the questions were different. And 'unlocked for global use?' Wouldn't that mean it can get hooked up to Blackberry's global network?

It's up to $820 now too. Whoa. Feel sorry for that person, assuming they'll actually be paying for it.

I called today to find out how many they had in store... the Michigan Ave store was sold out by 8:05. However... they could order one for overnight delivery w/ free shipping that can be picked up tomorrow. So, no lines, and no waiting for several weeks.

I got a chance to fuck with my buddies "Bold" today at Coffee and the colors on the screen are AMAZING! - The Storm has received some pretty good reviews and I hope the Web Browsing is better than the typical BB Browser as that has always been the Achilles of all their models

CDMA network phones can be unlocked however it's extremely uncommon. Secondly, any sim card reader can be unlocked.

For those who don't know, unlocking phones is not a simple process that can be done.

Another update on the storm they haven't really advertised (until today it was unknown to the stores even)..It will be Rhapsody capable, if you're into that (I like it so far, although I don't listen to so many different styles/artists to take full advantage of it). 14.99 a month for unlimited listening on 3 computers and 3 vzw phones.. although I'm only keeping it b/c I have it on the main puter, and let my sister who's in the army (texas for ait maybe??) use it on her puter, so it gets used.

I'm assuming you'd have to be able to somehow mess with the programming of the phone to do that then..

*shrug*..I just like cool stuff, the curve's screen is too small for my liking..which is why i opted for the voyager when I got my plan, real keys and touch screen in front. best (sort of) of both worlds for me

and from my understanding (so far), at least half of the people i've seen with blackberries are younger teens/adults who want one to be 'trendy', and don't use it for the corporate email ability, or world travel for that matter

myself, I'd like a blackberry for the ability to tether to my laptop and use the phone as my main one once I move out, so I won't need a landline, already have internet then, and get dish or something lol.

(all these opinions are based on my ability to get vzw as an employee, I'm not as familiar with other carriers ...i'm a cheap-o and try to get the most out of my $ lol)

No lines however, not sure where that notion came about..Pretty much a decent demand for them so far, and VZW/blackberry (rim) aren't producing a bunch so as not to worry about having a bunch of phones that don't sell if it flops and/or has some bugs.

no it tethers, guess its tethering speed is supposed to be faster than that of the curve. I was just saying that I want it, esp. when I move out, so I can use it as my wireless internet, main phone, and fun gadget.

in re-reading it makes it sound like that's why i wouldnt get it or something, i'll fix that.

Tethering costs what $25 per month? I'd rather do the unlimited USB or PCMCIA card for $49 and then have both available full time.

I have had a PCMCIA card for years and love it. I recently moved to tethering and plan on moving back to the PC card solution or USB after Christmas.

tethering itself varies on cost....it'll end up costing 59.99 a month total for tethering and data/email. so if data/email is personal use for 29.99 a month, tethering is 30..if you use it for corporate email for 44.99 a month, then 15 for tethering, etc.

Although It is easier to have 2 things...I like to save money, so i'm probably going to stick with 1 that works as both lol. At least while you tether, the blackberry still answers calls/charges.

Just an fyi . . . . older plans allowed unlimited access to data. As of approximately November of 2007 Verizon attached a 5GB cap onto their broadband card access customers. Not that too many aircard users actually go over 5GB per month, unless of course you're doing a lot of downloading or using streaming video? Anyways the overage is .25 per MB, however, Verizon now gives 3 months of "forgiveness" to all aircard customers throughout their 2 year commitment. This means you can go over the 5GB limit any 3 months of your contract and you will NOT be charged overages. However, after you use up the 3 months you're SOL.

The phone's internet capabilities are going to be faster because it's their first HSPDA device (High Speed Packet Data Access).
