Nicor - bunch of thieves

I got the bill today for 300$. I got pissed off right away, no way I used so much
gas over the last month. I put high efficiency furnace 93+ and keeping the temp.
lower than had last year. I looked at the actual reading (11/20/200 and is stating 4276 terms
so I went outside and looked at the meeter. If I'm reading correctly I have 4101 terms on it
Those assholes are 175 term over. 175 * .77c = 134$ over.
Look at this photo and tell me I'm wright.

that also happenned to a friend of mine. some of the meter checkers aren't too bright. If you call them up, let them know you think there is an error in the reading. They should send somebody out to look again.

That ain't nothin'

F'n Cook county thinks I paid around $74K for my Multistrada two years ago and wants the remaining $500 or $600 (don't remember) in taxes on top of $90 or so I already paid. I guess they mistaken 1 for 7...

Tell Cook County you will sell the bike to them for $30k if they wave the $600 in additional taxes...

If you do nothing, you'll have a much lower bill next time someone actually reads it properly.

+1... they don't send out a meter reader every month. when a reader is not sent out to look at the actual numbers they guestimate based on previous usage and size of residence. when someone goes out next time it should adjust properly. if u don't want surprise bills you could sign up for their budget plan. i did that and pay the same amount every month no matter what. during the summer it sucks because i am paying way more than i am using, but during the upcoming months all that extra coin i have been putting in will get used when the bill goes over my budget payment amount.

+1. I had this problem for a while. I found out when I called them that they estimate the reads every other month in my area. If you call them, they can mail you a schedule of when they read and when they estimate. you can then read your own meter on the months they dont and call it in. it is even automated where you can punch it in on your phone.
in any case, the bill will even out the next cycle.

are you onthe budget plan for gas service?

I cannot make out the upper 2 dials what do they say
the lower dials do read as 4101

how old is that meter, they do need periodic replacement as wear, age and the elements all eventually affect their accuracy

my company casts the aluminum bodies for the company that retains i think 80% of the residential gas meter market, ive been to their plant and had the entire process explained to me

If you call Nicor, they will accept a reading from you over the phone and issue a new bill. This type of problem has happened to me twice before. Usually they are off by only 100 therms though. Your reader's mess-up is really strange.

I did call them and they changed the bill from 300$ to 147$.
WOW big difference.
She said they scan the meter, but how the hell they scan them and make such a big mistake. Bunch of fucking crooks.
I have to check how old that thing is, and may be I can get them to replace that old crap. Any ideas how to force them to do it?

as old as it looks i dont think itd be compatiable with electronic scamming ... i mean scanning im no expert on that though

I think EGV has an ordinance about meter age and replacement schedules again im not entirely sure on that but a call to village public works should be able to clear things up

even easier is to use their website and enter your reading online. you can sign up for email notices too for the months that they estimate and provide your own readings when they request them.

I called in once on the readings as well and saved quite a bit. I was told on the phone that they Averaged estimated on what the bills were the prior year. Since then I always go online and pull up their meter reading page and resubmit.

You would think it would even out but in my case it never gave credit unless I did the online sheet and faxed it to them.

Every little bit helps!

Here's what I was told by an inside source...Nicor has manpower issues, so they can't always get out and take readings. If they miss yours, they'll delve into the historical record and take last year's reading...I found this out when I got a HUGE bill for a unit I wasn't even living in at the time.

In August I got bill for 599$.
I almost flipped. I call them and ask whats up with that shit.
They said the guy who checks the meters couldn't get to my meeter from January till July and all was estimated, but they where sending bills for exact readings every other month. I asked why he could'nt get to the meter so she said meter blockage or some other shit. I got pissed off and said that's a fucking lie. Yard is all open and there is nothing in the 50ft area so nothing could block the meeter. She was speechless. I told her I don't have 600$ to pay this right away, so I have 6 month to pay that bill. I told here now you will wait for my money. Nicor is starting to piss me off big time. Do to there laziness I have to suffer. Since now on I will give them the numbers.
