I think several threads have recently been abducted by the MIB's.

Sadly, while there was some rational discussion, there was also some
mud-slinging going on.

I think the sticky in the top of the open forum addresses this.

Shame to see the mods need to step in when we don't regulate ourselves.

I probably wouldn't create a thread about it. A PM to the nearest friendly moderator and/or admin should suffice without making it public.

Mort,

Just do what I do. I delete my own threads (as any Member can do) when it starts to get out of hand. I think that the intent here is to have a wide open, un-policed, un-censored productive forum. I think that the greatest part of a venue like this is that it allows us to share our views, get them challenged, see other vantage points, and perhaps all be better off for it.

Unfortunately, sometimes things get a little out of hand. Depending on the severity of it, either a post can be deleted, or sometimes it is easier just to delete the thread entirely. (can be done by the thread starter or that forum's mod)

Reality is that if we could all be adults and respectful around here (as almost everyone is) then we wouldn't have these issues crop up. Of course, from time to time, ALL of us post up stupid, unnecessary or inflammatory remarks. If we all could police ourselves after we calmed down, delete our own posts, then we'd have Utopia. Of course, we all know that doesn't exist.

So, buck up, realize that the world ain't perfect, and there is no real reason to get too bent out of shape on much, if anything on an internet forum. That said, it is the Mods function in life to do for those that can't do for themselves. If the Members were to PM folks when they were getting out of hand, it is possible that less intervention would be required. Who knows? Maybe that wouldn't do any good either. But it would sure be nice if we were all trying to keep our house clean, now, wouldn't it?

I have no clue what thread you are referring to, nor is any of this post targeted towards you. More of just some of my own thinking regarding Mod and thread issues.

<~~Admin talking here.

ok some events have gone past the normal open forum polices we now have which are very close to null recently with some threads. in some recent issues some very disrespectful issues have been posted in certain threads.

1 of them being: Make no mistake, race still matters (Multi-page thread 1 2 3)
jrock)

this has been brought up to me for review since the moderators are helping me and tony and us all trying to have a more open format while being respectful while having conversation in any type of discussion thread.

in this case it appears the members did not keep themselves in good fashion of such and the threads where moved to our deleted threads forum for the staff to discuss what to do in the best interest to all.

diversity and equality and respect are issues we are focused in for our members to interact with each other and to police themselves.

its apparent a few members comments or whole thread created was not in any form of respectful discussion.

SO, in closing and i apologize in advance if the course of action isn't as prompt as some would like. please bare with as we are handling our own jobs while providing a community service to you all.

i will be looking into these threads, delete what comments are derogatory and returning the thread to where it was or should go.

in the order of how for now we are handing such issues are:

1. move the thread to deleted area for the staff to review and discuss with the admins on best course of action.

2. while this is being conducted the author will be notified and even there own suggestions or input is open for validity to the thread of how they can help make it better or reverse the course of the train wreck it went into.

3. hopefully put it back with minimal editing for you all to continue to discuss what ever it was.

i hope this explains in some detail what our normal criteria is for such matters and how to handle them.

thank you.

thanks tom, actually i blame myself for all this as it is apparent to myself that what we have been trying to do all along and now more so then ever, really isnt documented very well.

i blame myself entirely and will make many efforts with all CLSB staff to make it more clear in the furture our minimal procedures and how we will handle them.

trust me though. ever since the downfall of the corporate censorship i/we all i know are more happy then ever since we gave them all the boot.

while that curtain was lifted and thrown in the garbage honestly we have been so laxed that our new issues have been address and spelled out for all to see and BE A PART OF.

which means i have some work i need to focus on this site along with staff members.

thanks for the vote of confidence.

I was sent a PM when my thread was deleted. I appreciated that. I was also asked if I would like it cleaned up and put back. I responsed that I would appreciate that.

Also, what will done about moderators who take threads off track?

are you to current events?

please read what i wrote above a little bit ago.

if you have questions for administration, ask away

but i feel we all should be able to NOT have our threads permanently locked, or closed, or deleted IF they have merit and worth while something to talk about or discussion of anything!

the only thing we want for our community is respect, courtesy, non abusive interactions with ALL members which include staff.

and sometimes its nessary to move it out of site from all for the staff to ask me and tony and there own views IF a thread in question has went beyond the lines.

we are a community, and we the staff are more so not police but community activist if you will now. managing this site to the best of our abilites for whats right, fair, and just.

i hope this explains what to date we are doing and most of all members inputs to us that are respectfully conveyed are highly considered.
