Terrible thing happened...I'm speechless

I was just informed that one of the kids my mom babysits is seriously hurt.

My mom runs a small babysitting biz out of the house. All the kids and their she babysits for have typically become very good friends with out family.

Unfortuately over the weekend little Russ had the most awful thing happen. The family was camping. A drunk driver ran off the road and over the tent they were in. Russ's head was rolled over by the car. He's 3 years old and was an incredibly smart little boy. This is unbelievable. I'm soooo angry right now.

Russ and his family need alot of prayers right now. He's in the hospital right now and we don't really know much about what is going to happen.

They ought to beat that drunk guy to death.

Sorry to hear about it. Prayers are with the family. I hope the little guy pulls out ok.

Him and his family will be in my prayers... I hope that there is something they can do for him and he can be ok. It is really sad to hear this and it is painful. I guess this is one of the reasons I do not drink unless I am at home or I have a designated driver. Then again this was probably someone at the campground that thought he was just goind down the road and was no big deal... this pisses me off.

Get better little Russ.

That is just terrible. It is just a possibility that you just never would think about when camping. My prayers go out to the family and little Russ.

that's too easy. If Russ doesn't recover 100% then this weasel should be indentured into being a care provider for the rest of Russ' life.

Sucks to hear about something like this occurring.

Where did it happen Brian?

I'm not sure Ernie.....the family is really upset right now and we are avoiding asking too many questions. All we can do is sit back and pray dude. I don't know what else to do. The family had to call my mom this morning and tell her Russ wasn't coming today. I just got off the phone with a sobbing mom too. I'll let the info trickle in the way the family wants to tell us. I'll be sure to let you guys know whatever I know.

Ernie, that is a fair punishment.

It is a hame that we (USA) would never do something like that because it would be "unfair" to the drunk jerk that ruined an innocent persons entire life.

Me and family's thoughts and prayers go out to Russ and his family. Why can't people drink responsibily? Is it that difficult? it makes me so He ruined his life and Russ's life, for what?

I am deeply sorry for the pain little Russ and family are going through. THEY are in my prayers!

Its sad to really think this could of been possibly avoided if only a little thought went into the activities of the driver hours beforehand.

Being a father of 2 little ones is tough thinking how to baby proof and watching their every move to keep them safe and then something totally uncontrolable on a dad's part takes place such as this. It's gut wrenching 2 fold!!

I wish a speedy healing and full recovery for little Russ.

I hope your Mom is doing okay as well. I know it must be tough on her as well Bri.

I found out a little more.

It happened in Madison. I tracked down a blurb from the local paper out there.

From the Capital Times.

Russell Engel Jr., 3, from Oak Lawn, Ill., was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday after a teenager drove over a tent where the toddler and his parents were sleeping, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Department. Authorities believe the 17-year-old Prairie du Chien boy stole the car from a campground. The tent was set up outside a Wyalusing home.

my prayers go out to this family....I cannot imagine anything happening to my darling little girls...there is no sufficient punishment for this degree of irresponsibility, and there is nothing that can be done to make the parents happy....

what would make the parents happy is to rewind the clock and not be there when the car went off the road, so their little boy would be allright....this is an absolute nightmare....please keep us posted as to what happens with Rus, I hope that its Gods will to bring Rus back to his family 110%

My friend was not camping. He was standing that the corner. When the sign said walk, he stepping out in to street and was hit by a one ton truck driven by a drunk driver. He was hit and had his head crushed.
