I'm going to be a recording artist.

I'm going to give my two weeks' to my boss today and I'm moving to New York to begin my career as a recording artist.

After seeing the CRAP singing of Kanye West and Mariah Carey last night (not to mention Kanye's shit performance on SNL last month) I have decided if they can do it, so can I. And frankly, I am not as freaky looking as Mariah so I have that going for me.

Seriously these people suck, and it pisses me off. I barely can make a living and I bust my ass at work. These people can't do the one thing they are supposed to do, and they make millions!! And for WHAT???! PLEASE someone tell me what either of these douchebags does that makes this world even SLIGHTLY better?!?!?!?!

+10,000 I think he sucks, but my 10 year old daughter loves him and that Heartless song. If he didn't use voice synthesizers he would be working at McDonalds.

Mariah has gradually become more and more freakish as she tries to ghettofy herself. She's gone from being the record-exec mobster's (alleged) trophy wife with a whistle-register voice to a gaudy walking-freak show in a decade.

I can't view the vid at work, but all I've ever heard by Kanye was Golddigger (EMPD's Golddigger is better) and that stupid Jesus Walks song. IMO, almost all rap from the past ~15 years or so is weak.

Artistic Expression! Thatís what itís all about, Iím no huge Kanye fan but have you ever seen anyone perform like that before? Iím betting heís seeing it as a work in progress, trying to pick-up where Outkast left off, trying new things with Hip Hop. Yea it was horrible but heís in a position to push the envelope on a show like SNL, trying something new. Too watch that performance and think hey Iím better then that is way off base. Of course Kanye is not a singer, heís a multi-platinum, multi-million dollar artist that came from nothing. Sure heís arrogant as hell but you gotta think big picture, he can afford to fail a few times because heís well established.

Focus on your own thing and do the best you possibly can, certainly donít justify launching your career on the failed projects of world renowned artists. I donít think Bono sounded so hot at the inauguration, now does that mean he sucks and I should cut an album, DONíT THINK SO!

I can't name a song or band that came out in the past decade that I like. I'm sure there is one, or some. Nothing is coming to mind. Music just sucks lately. Definitely since the new century.

K West Singing = Bad

K West Rapping = Decent

K West Beats = Awesome!

K West Beats w/ Common or Jay Z Rapping = World Class

I just hope Kanye doesn't continue with the pro-tools singing crap. Every artist tries to break out of their mold, and 99% of the time it doesn't work. The good ones realize it and go back to what they do right.

Kanye is talented at producing and even rapping but he can't sing worth shit. This R&B/Hip-Hop move of his is not "experimenting" or "pushing the envelope," it's crap. Crap crap crap. The songs are awesome; he just can not sing them. Yes, I am just as good as he is-- no wait, I'm better. You wanna know the difference? I'm smart enough to know not to go on SNL with a crappy singing voice.

And if we're going there with the bad singers, how about Taylor Swift? The produced songs sound great. Live? BARF!

the Grey Album is fricken awesome. Mixed by Danger Mouse of Gnarles Barkley fame, the Grey Album mixes Jay-Z's lyrics off the Black album (released without music to encourage this type of mixing) with music from The Beatle's White album and it's outstanding. Highly recommend it.

So how do you really feel?

No disagreement here, just ignore the maddness that passes for music that's out there and focus on your thing and building your audience, otherwise you'll only get more and more frustrated.

We can talk about Miley Cyrus (all of Disney), J-Lo, Janet Jackson, 80% of rappers today, especially the ones whose name begin with "Lil" and "Young".

It's called the "Music Business" for a reason.

If someone likes Eminem and Kid Rock but no other rappers, they automatically "sound racist?" I hate both for the record.

If someone prefers old school rap over new school, it's because they're stupid?

I'll readily share my opinion of music (or anything), but I won't make assumptions or take shots at the people that like what they do for whatever reason they like it. (ex: sounding racist, possessing a slow mind, enduring a mid-life crisis, etc.) If we all liked the same music, we'd.... well, popular radio would sound pretty much like it already does.

Oh, and I don't think the OP serious about starting a recording career.

I'm liking that Mariah pic. All I've seen of her lately is ghetto-fabulous. Admittedly, I don't keep up to date on her every move. My loss.

enimen has more then 2 words in his song. thats why I respect his rap. Snoop dog is old school and still around. Kid rock was an old school rapper and now has moved onto country.

Old school means, people worked their ass off to make it in the business. Snoop dog, Ice T, kid rock, eminem, etc.....

Now you come up with a "cool" two word phrase and a beat and your a rapper. Or singing songs about raping chicks and doing drive bys.
