Scams on THIS board!

So, I have a Icon Helmet for sale in the classifieds here and look what PM I just got
"Hello

I am interested in buying the Icon Airframe Helmet Size Large that you have placed for sell now, and I would want to enquire about the present condition of the above mentioned, as well as some detail about you. I expect this timely enough.

As for the payment, I would need you to get back in touch with the last asking price as I will be paying with a Cashier Cheque.

Lastly, please forward to me your full company''s (or house address, telephone and fax) details as I will subsequently prefer reaching you through these facilities.

Yours interestingly,

Raymond Griffiths

Should you need to reply to me, Please get back in touch with your details to me at: [email protected] for a quick reply."

Yes, that is on these boards. His handle on here is "simone".

You could have just pm'd one of the admins or mods. With zero posts its clearly a spam account and not an actual member. I'll ban the account.

Right, but, I also wanted to give warning to less fortunate people who don't realize that this is indeed a scam.

Pretty much anytime someone is looking to pay with a check, it's a scam. Especially when they ask for your address.

It depends on the item, but for a small item like a helmet, especially on this board, nothing but cash.

Paypal is good, but you have to be careful. Never click on a link through an email, always log into paypal on your computer and sign in.

Checks can be okay, but only if you allow them to clear through your bank. I would never sell something and ship it out before it clears my bank account. Figure it usually takes several business days to clear. Even then, a stop at the bank could solve quite a few problems.

To explain all the fine details in a thread like this is out of the question. If you decide to do any kind of business on the internet involving buying or selling it's important to consult people who have experience with it. Yes, I have been screwed before, but that isn't anyone elses business.

The PM the fellow got above is clearly from someone who is not from around here. The person types differently, almost of Euro style but it reflects someone from Africa. A lot of the internet scams come from African countries. If someone is trying to buy something off of you and they want your address and phone number that is a dead give away. Even down to the way the person spelled Check "Cheque" gives it away.

There are alot of write ups out there if you google "Inernet Scams". You can learn all about it that way.

Either ID theft or another popular thing is to send a fake check. The person deposits the check and the money shows up in their bank account. The person then goes and ships the item, only to find out a couple days later that the check was fake and the money is gone with no way to get the item they shipped back.

Sharp as a beachball...?

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

It said "Cashier Cheque".

FYI: in.org resolves to a web site offering privacy protection (Privacyprotect.org) that appears to be located in the Netherlands and a web site (www dot netmagicsolutions dot com). If this is a legit offer, they are more paranoid than you.

There's sucker born every minute.

In.com is a free email site, similar to Yahoo and Google, just smaller.
