nano-bots eating all organic life
strange matter from LHC will turn us all to strange goo
nuclear warfare
biological warfare (encompassing super virus with no cure due to over-use of antibiotics)
12/21/12...mystery bag!
super-volcano under yellowstone goes boom
asteroid that fly's by 4/13/29 comes back in 7 years to whack us.

I personally think mankind will eventually just destroy itself. I don't think it will be malicious, but more on the scientific end.

The LHC for example. We are treading very close to a line we probably shouldn't be crossing. I don't think the LHC will do anything bad, but because as humans we are stubborn, somebody will take it one step further. Then someone else will take it one step further.

Then the next guy forgets to carry the one and we all get sucked into a giant black hole

here's another..

genetic engineering only the upper class can afford will create a seperate species of 'humans', causes a new 'race' (er..specie?) war, where the new enhanced 'humans' win out and wipe out the outdated 'dumb' ones...ending what we now know of as 'humans'.

So that, nano-bots, or our 'kill-or be killed' instincts will cause the distant AI computers to show us exactly what happens to inferior intelligences; that's what I place my bets on.

How 'bout this for a mind-f*ck?...what does happen when you die? Have you ever tried to imagine how long forever is? Even if you do have a 'soul', or ability to think after death, and can explore the universe with no limits of the physical body, forever is a long, long, long long time....

and that's why I do hope/believe there is an It, or maker, whatever It is called..maybe just looping your conscious(whatever word describes your sense of being) through different lives/worlds/intelligent forms indefinitely, never really being an 'end' to the universe as it were.

Dude, you need to read Nancy Kress' "Beggars in Spain" series. She's a brilliant writer, and includes genetic manipulation and technoligical wipe-outs in the three book series.

I can't say more than that without any spoilers...I fucken' LOVE that series.

we are not dead, but living in a pod and experiencing life throw a highly adaptable computer program, a matrix of sort.

Scientists are pretty sure Earth's orbit is deteriorating and in a few million years it will get sucked into the sun....if it doesn't go supernova prior to this event.

Then there's always the asteroids, either the planet killing size or dinosaur extincting size that they say are sighted passing through the solar system but haven't gotten close to hitting anything.....yet.

I think man will create his own demise. Mostly from abusing the planet and over-taxing it's resources - Water, Fossil Fuels, plant and animal life, etc. A good runner up will be our creation of technologies without understanding the consequences.

We are probably well on the way already. it will take a few hundred more years, maybe a few thousand.

Technology, Global Climate Alteration, War - whatever the end game, it will be our own doing. And I have little doubt that like has been mentioned, we will manage to eliminate most of us at least once before we finally wipe ourselves out.

And I'll be long gone, and my soul inhabiting some other poor fool's body when it happens.

Yup. She'll course correct this infestation of human beings eventually.
