Good News for Paul

I couldn't say anything before today, but I have been selected to be on the team responsible for bringing the US Presidency, and all that encompasses it, into a current era of technology. Much of what has been done, up to this point, has been a hodge podge of technology.

Obama's key tech people are divided into several teams. I will be leading a team of about 25 people to develop and implement the overall strategy of White House technology upgrades and a complete redesign, from top-to-bottom, of how tech works. It requires a few trips to the White House itself!

I am very excited and happy to be a part of this effort.
Wish me luck!

So, TOTAL Congrats!! Now, from a selfish point, I'd love to get some time with you to find out what your initiatives will be and tell you about a few of our companies and technologies that might be of assistance...

Man, you are gonna get sick of hearing that, so I wanted to put it out there first. Seriously though, I'd love to have a breakfast or lunch with you before it all ramps up and you are totally swamped.

Congrats again!!

Thanks all. It is a great honor, really. Politics aside, I am just glad to play a part in this endeavor. This is not a full-time position at all. Most of the work is being done on weekends and one week night a week. There is a lot that needs to be done. My role is purely strategy and i will be working with several people across the country. Purchasing and vendor decisions fall into a full-time position. My role is purely to say what needs to be done and how, the rest is up to others. Think of me as the Director of a movie. It's a very similar role

Not much at all. I make five trips to the White House between now and June 1 and have one meeting a week on Thursday nights. That's it. After June 1 we look at things and decide if we need to keep everyone on the team or reduce it as we move into phase 2. Phase 2 lasts about 5 months and then we are done. It will be in the full-time staff's hands after that point and I will have my little tick on the resume

No, they have someone in that role. I report to him. he is the chief strategist in this, using me as his go-to guy for various aspects of the plan. For example, they are working on just getting things up and running right now, but my first task is to build a strategy for instant communications within the administration. How to securely be able to instantly "IM" other folks. We cannot use public technology like Yahoo!, or AIM, of course. So, I am now kicking off a plan to create a secure, internal-only, IM system.

Spark to the rescue!

Was reading that WP article.. Looks like a mess.. I imagine the team feels like they just walked into the biggest most challenging job of their lives.. and had their arms and legs cut off before they could start
