Not to piss on Paul's parade but....

I got promoted today!
And, I got a 14% pay raise.

My next role will be to wrap up the project I'm working on, and I am going to go full time supporting the Army Installation Management Command at Ft. Sam Houston. I'm going to be responsible for transitioning the Army's environmental command from its current post in Aberdeen to its new home in San Antonio as part of the last round of base closures/realignment. With that comes the hiring of about 50 people over the next few years, development of our staff currently on the contract, and responsibility of proposing on (and winning) ~$50M in new contracts.

It's a big deal, and a huge jump in responsibility, and I worked my ass off for it. And, I'm actually glad to move out of my downtown office and go on post and meet some new people. The Riverwalk is nice and all, but I'm over it.

I'm not jealous. I still have student loan debt out the wazoo, I couldn't afford to buy a house even if I wanted to, and I work insane hours and live 1,000 miles away from my friends and family. It's not all perfect and happy....it's just a good promotion and raise.

My company, by the way, is traditionally very conservative with promotions and with pay. We pay much less than most A&E firms but we tend to retain people for the life of their careers, and we don't fire people when we lose a contract. So, yeah, I got a big raise, but it was a big raise on a smaller number. I think Alex makes more than I do.

I'm proud of myself though.

Toolmaking has been slow to say the least.

You should be proud of yourself .

I'm proud of my boss for not giving up and hoping my dedication will pay off soon.

You just keep working for your next pay raise and you'll get that one also.

Congrats! I can't wait for the day I can have the great feeling of all your hard work paying off.

Instead, I get the feeling of keeping my job, which feels pretty good and makes the vodka go down smoother (my company just canned 50 people, on top of a pay freeze announced today.)
