The loss in stock value really sucks...but like anything else, you weather it out and it will recover... eventually. It did in '87.
The full MSRP trade value of a Sportster for a Big Twin is nothing new, they did this with the XLX several years ago to get people to buy the Big Twins after the motor company took over from AMF and went all out to improve quality.
I'll bet some good deals can be made on a V-Rod. It's been a sales disappointment since the beginning, even though it is a very good bike.
