dave13 train question

I loved trains since i was a kid and had an awesome train book of all different trains.

I remember seeing tracks that had two parallel rails on each side. Usually, on bridges.

heres a vid



is this a safety thing? if a train derails you have the extra rail?

They are support rails, they help to hold all the ties together. It is much stronger because a train is not exerting any force on it. Train rains a spaced 4 feet 8.5 inches apart. If that train derailed, it would never hit both of those inside rails at the same time.
