I've been to a couple of them at Rt. 66. It's crazy good times. One tip though, don't ride there, drive and bring a case of beer in a cooler, great tailgating there.

P.S. You do not have to be whitetrash to enjoy yourself, you can be any color trash you want.

Really, lets here some gory detials.

I did a few spectator races out at sycamore, plus my dad ran late and super late model out there for I think five years, and I actually never saw anyone get seriously hurt. I almost got crshed by my dad's car while changing gears cause a drunk guy hit the front of our car in the pits and it knocked it of the stands, but still no one got hurt.

Its kind of morbid, but the track owner, Joe, he died in an accedient out there a few years ago. Apreantly a rim broke on a right rear of I think a late model car, and it hit him, and it killed him.

I ran Powder Puff a few times, but watched many races. I'm not sure about the other tracks, but Sycamore (early to mid 90') did not require roll bars. One night a car crashed so hard into the car in front, that the other car got pushed up again the wall and rolled over somehow, then a couple other cars crashed in to it. The guy didn't make it.

It looks like “bumper car” fun, but slamming and getting slammed at 20-40mph over and over hurts and people do get hurt. I was sore as all hell afterword.

Maybe I'll scan some pics tonight

my friends race at sycamore every weekend and have asked me on several occasions if i want to borrow their cars. racing never seemed very appealing to me, mainly because a lot of the drivers are shitfaced by the time the races start and some of them are out for blood. the cars...well, lets just say they might as well be held together with band-aids. not very safe. it's a spinal cord injury waiting to happen, IMO.

being a spectator, on the otherhand, is highly entertaining.

kinda short notice but i would buy that car, but i need to look into it a bit more, like, how would i get that thing over there, and i am sure roll cage it and all the other shit they require to be safe, but a day away, and some other stuff going on right now i dont think ill have it ready in time, but can someone find out?
where you can maybe go with a junker and just smash it to crap in a derby? and hopefully just give em the keys after it is destroyed?

We went out to sycamore speedway a few times last year. FUN AS HELL! its cheap too. i think the beer cost like a dollar or two? if shugg gets on here, he can tell you alot more about it. he had a friend who raced there recently. its really alot of fun....its crazy the amount of dust that flies up though. we would always grab like 6 beers at a time, and by the time you got to #4, there would be a layer of dust in your beer.
oh yeah, and i guess i was the non-white trash that was there!

we should set it up in advance a little....and plan a trip out there. friday nights when they have Demolition Derby - Spectator Racing - Figure 8 - One on One Drags - Powder Puff - are the nights to go!

Yup its a fun place. And yea the old mill and whine coolers flow, and cheeply too.

Anna, when we raced out there the spectator class did not require a roll bar, and as far as I know they still don't. I have also heard they are the only track in the country that someone is getting away with that rule. And yea its all to common for people to be hammered out there, and way to serisous about it, the spetator class that is. Now the late models and super lates are bonified sort of real race cars, and real racing.

i would *think* that you would be able to turn around and sell the car for $100 after your done smashing it up. most of the cars there are beat to hell....they usually just get them running again and re-race them, right?
and who knows ody....you could be the last man running!!!!!

If your talking about going out to sycamore, then what you do is very simple, I've seen it done time and time again. Obvisouly you'll want to get a copy of the rules and do as much as you can ahead of time. But you can still drive the car out there. They have a spot in the pits where its nothing but glass, pull into the area, and procedd to remove the glass form your car with a hammer. Now to secure the doors. Head over by regestration, you'll find a pile of bailing wire and a pix axe, take said pix axe, and punch a whole through any doors and adjacnet body pannels. Run the free bailing wire through the holes and spin them around each other, once maybe twice, like a twist tie. Go through tech, and start drinking Oh, Load a truck with tools and supplies and beer ahead of time, this is your ride home. Now, leave the car there, come back next week and do it all again. When your all done and the car won't go anymore sell it to the track. I think I got like 80 or 100 bucks once. Keep in mind that any night that there are races and your not there, there is a good chance someone may steel parts of your car, have fun!

Nick

Demo Derby sounds fun, just breakin the glass and painting goofy stuff on the car would be worth it, we could do it to relieve all the tension we have against cages.

Ken, lets be partners. How many heats do they have? We could switch every race, if our car makes it past the first.
