This happened as I was sitting in Chem discussion about a block away. Didn't even know anything was going on till someone txt'd me in class saying all the roads where blocked off.
Soon as class was over I went home. Been shot at before, didn't feel like having it happen again.
And if you want a reason to conceal carry, I can forward you all the crime alerts that are e-mailed to UIC students about the robberies that have been happening around campus at knife point.

This is the only one I have as I usually delete them after reading them. But they are usually something along these same lines.

CRIME ALERT

At approximately 6:30pm Thursday March 5 in Lot 5C, 1131 S. Morgan St., a UIC student was walking southbound on the east walkway when he was approached by two offenders, one of whom produced a knife and demanded the student’s wallet. As the student was trying to produce the wallet, the second offender punched the student in the eye. The student then fled the area. The injury did not require medical attention.

Both offenders are described as male blacks 24-25 years old. The first offender is described as between 5-11 and 6-2, 180 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and white Nike gym shoes. The second offender is described as 6 feet, 180 pounds, wearing a dark blue sweatshirt and jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call UIC police at (312) 996-2830. The emergency number for UIC police is (312) 355-5555 (5-5555 from campus phones).

I think there is at least 1 Crime Alert every week or two at UIC. Usually armed robbery, knife/gun point. It wasn't this bad when I was a freshman. My brother ditched his chem lecture as well, the professor said if you were scared or something you could leave. My brother ditched class and got pizza with me and my friends.

When I went there, I dont recall any crime alerts. Could be because I didn't read their paper or had access to their email account. (school was so behind on computer technology)

Biggest things were women raped at night. You had to look out for the homeless people that begged for money in the area. And school was right next to the CHA building (projects)(which is gone now)

Driving to school, you had to go through the ghetto.

Hows the computer labs now? No matter what lab you went to, they were always full.

They still get pretty full but you should be able to get a computer within 10 min or so. The computers aren't too bad, the biggest labs have Core 2 Duo Lenovos. Smaller ones have P4s.

Heres another:
On Feb. 9 at 8:25 p.m., a UIC student was the victim of an armed robbery off campus
in the 600 block of South Laflin Street (1500 West).

Two offenders confronted the student. One demanded the student's wallet and cell
phone, and then displayed a handgun. Both offenders fled on foot southbound on
Laflin. The victim was not injured.

The offenders are described as follows:

1. black male, 20 years old, 5-10 to 6 feet, 180 pounds, medium complexion, wearing
a black jacket and blue jeans, armed with a silver revolver.

2. black male, 20 years old, 5-8 to 5-10, 180 pounds, medium complexion, wearing a
dark jacket with white hoodie that had multi-colored crosses all over it.

***UIC Police strongly recommend complying with an armed offender's demand for
property or valuables, as the victim did in this case.***

And another:
On February 5 at 5:40 p.m., a UIC student was beaten and robbed by five assailants
while riding a CTA Blue Line train in the downtown subway. The offenders took the
victim's iPod. The victim was treated and released from the UIC emergency room for
abrasions to the head and face.

The offenders were described as black males about 18 years of age, all wearing red
varsity-style coats.
