Decent flight simulator

I was daydreaming about some old flight games I had years ago and wanted to pick something up. I see the microsoft flight simulator is still around. What is a good cheap fun simulation out there. I like being able to control things, the more realistic the better. I want to be able to takeoff, land and mess around. I'll be using my IBM ThinkPad. It has a pentium4 m @2.4GHZ and 768MB Ram. What will run smoothly and keep me entertained?

is a price I wouldn't mind, and sounds like my old beast will run it...opinions?

I use MS Flight simulator all the time. You can't go wrong with it, especially if you have a souped up PC and can use all teh graphic features of it.

I don't think mine is souped up at all. Do you think it would be ok with the graphics turned down, or should I look at an older version of it?

FSX will not run on my AMD 3000+ with a 256mb video card and a gig of ram. runs at like 8fps and is generally unplayable, even with the graphics turned down.

try to find FS2004 as it will run much better on your machine.

I heard there is an addon for FSX that uses this.. and the new Tom Clancy's HAWX world is modeled using it as well. I played the demo on Xbox360 and Rio De Janiero looks absolutely amazing, although the flight isnt technical or correct it does look amazing.

now that game looks sweet

there's addons i'm sure, just have to search around and really research.. ended up getting one for $15, thinking that it would use google earth as the map, but i guess all it does is track your aircraft location on google earth, wtf!

waste of monies

I have X-Plane. Not only does it run on a Mac (in addition to PC and Linux), but there's a version of it that is actually used by the FAA. It's basically a physics modeler rather than a game. If you do something dumb, you will crash. It's VERY realistic.
