NESBA Control Rider/Racer Needs Our Help!!!

I received a telephone call Sunday night from a good friend of Paul Donnan's.

Paul is in a desperate situation and needs our help.

In April, he left for Spain to attend his daughter's wedding, then stopped to visit his parents in England on his way home. When he got to Heathrow airport in London, they told him there was a problem with his visa and that he could not return to the United States (apparently he had neglected to renew it and it had expired).

The guy's been living and working here for 19 years, and now he's stuck halfway across the world with little more than the clothes on his back. Can you imagine, going away on a trip and then suddenly you're whole world is closed to you??!!!

I have been asked to round up as many people as possible, Paul's friends and anyone else who wants to lend support, to come to a meeting at Joe Wedic's house in Plainfield, Illinois this Saturday July 26th, at 1pm. The address is 3010 Galena Drive, across from the Louis Joliet Mall. If you don't know where it is, jump on Yahoo maps and enter that address and you should be good to go.

If anyone has any ideas on how to help Paul out of this situation, his good friends Jeff and Pat Powers ask that you please contact them at 920-893-8725.

If anyone knows any political types looking for a cause to rally behind (Chicago alderman Luis Gutierrez comes to mind), or knows someone with any experience dealing with this kind of stuff, please come to this meeting in Plainfield. There's supposed to be a TV crew or something like that, according to Jeff, and his thought is the more people who show up the better.

Please join me in helping to BRING PAUL HOME!!!

My best friend is currently an instructor down at the FLETC in Georgia. He works for the DHS, border and customs. I'll ask him what your friend's options are. An expired visa is an expired visa though, so I don't know if this guy will come through with anything helpful, but I'll ask him. I take it the guy is either H1-B/A or has an American spouse?

Well, the first thing is... what is his situation... did he have just a work visa, was he a resident. Then next, and inmigration lawyer is the best bet. Also talking to the US Embassy here and the Embassy or consulate of his place of origin. That is a bad situation, but hopefully not completely a lost cause. I will try to help with what I can.

Yep, that's him. I've got calls in trying to get more specific info on his visa (am guessing he had an H1) - I know he's not married.

I will post more info as soon as I hear.

They are not being tolerant of expired H1B visas right now. A coworker of mine from Canada let his expire, along with his passport and had to be immediately suspended from his job. He had to get his passport straightened out, leave for Canada and return, then get a NEW H1B visa in order to return to work.

Since the events of 911, you DO NOT want to fool around and let your passport or H1B expire!

I hate to say it, but if he's already out of the country with an expired passport and H1B, he's probably screwed. It's probably going to take AT LEAST two months to get this straightened out!

So he is an immigrate working on a visa?
Sorry but I don't know to much about this stuff, but if he is an American, I say go to the American embassy, if not, I guess he needs to go threw his government?

Man, that stuff always gets messy...

I came here on a tourist visa (wasn't planning on staying). I was illegal for 4 years, but I did go back to Poland after two years, without valid visa. What I did though, is I applied for permit, my reason being my "sick" mom. Now, I don't know how it was ok for me to get it, since I was illegal, but it was during time where I was waiting to become an Alien Citizen and the paperwork was just taking a long freakin' time.

I don't know what his situation is, but if he could talk to the ambassy, and say he had to leave for "important" reason and didn't have time to check if his visa was expired. Just my .02
