i have the same monitor...my commuter is just as good then, at least in my book.

But that also looks like it would be a fun commuter to have

Let's see how fast it is when he fills it with 6tb of porn, then bring that crazy group of friends over for a "look how fast my computer is" party. They would be required to wear the silly hats though.

couldn't see the size, but my little red light and sticker looks the same. 19" seem right? I have a feeling it could've been the 21 though

Speak geeky to me, why didn't he just go with 6x500gb drives, rather than the rat's nest of 24x250gb drives???

I don't think they make 500gb SSDs. I could be wrong though.

Gotcha, so a SSD drive is a Solid Sate drive with no moving parts, less latency and low access times, hence the 2gb/sec access the nerd was getting. Then, to prove they were actually SSD drives, he took the trampoline next to his desk that he uses for exercise to jump on while holding the drives.

So, are SSDs going to replace HDDs?

I have exhausted all my knowledge of SSDs in this thread already, so I have no idea

Ey...wait a minute....

I just realized something....

Why would you defrag a SSD?

I feel duped.

I dunno, wouldn't it be more like formatting it?

I have very little geek knowledge, I just plugged together my first build... but more and more interested in the simpler things.

SSDs are like giant SD or CF cards. 256gb is the largest available for the regular joe schmoe consumer right now. and they're still kinda pricey. give it a year or two and they'll have TB SSDs under $1k.

And, yes, when pricing makes it viable, they'll start to replace standard hard drives, likely in laptops first due to their portability. I'd love to have one in mine. Plus they consume much less power than a spinning disc.

You can get an SSD as a build to order option in a few computers. the Macbook Air is the first that I know of to have it as an option. When it came out it was $999 for 128gb.
