Hot tub troubleshooting question

My hot tub display says it's at 102 degrees, but thats a lie, it's actually 96 according to the duc thermometer floating around in there, that I affectionately call, "Wilber the party duc".

My guess is the electronic temp sensor is the culprit here. as all pumps etc are still running correctly, the temp just isn't accurate. anyone know how to test a temp sensor before I just start throwing parts at it unnecessarily?

get a service manual!

although it would help if it did exist for the hot-tub, with troubleshooting to test the electronics behind it

no clue off hand.

but since you and I have been riding together for years. I'll help ya out.

Have you tested the temp sensor when you first got the tub? It could just be the factory puts a shitty temp sensor which has a 10 degree +/- tolerance.

The sensor is close to the output where the water exits which will be hotter.

Or the tub's temp is just the setting what it will make the tub, and the thermostat for the heater is broke.

Bingo.

You can spend a lot of time and water draining, replacing, filling blah blah blah.. or you can just set temp higher.

+2

Friction causes heat.

I predict a seven-way would raise the temperature the six degree difference.

Hot tubs are nasty!! I love cooking in other peoples crotch funk. Nasty! Nasty!
Nasty cesspool of crap. But if there are naked girls involved I'm ok with hot tubs.

I came here to drink some beer and kick some ass. And it looks like we are all out of beer.

Hmmmm. I'll take a stab the ole Duc temp guage is as unreliable as the actual product it promotes.

Well I guess the economy isn't that bad, people still have HOT TUBS!!!

The duc temp gauge may be slightly off, but the tub is not Hot.

Tony,
Try and remove the temperature sensor from the tub location or well housing (if you have that) and submerge it directly into the water. This will verify if the sensor has been installed where ambient outside air temps have affected it or if it is defective.

If needed insulate the wall pretty good so the outside air does not influence or fake out the actual temperature reading.

Not sure if you have the probe or cord type but you can always see if you need a new temperature sensor cord. This would be a cord that plugs into the circuit board and usually runs into a port usually connected into the "shell" of the tub to read the temperature of the water. Some of the temperature sensors are mounted or wrapped onto the heater tube itself, so see if you can find that probe and try replacing it and that should solve the problem. SOMETIMES the plug from the board to the cord or wire harness comes loose. make sure the connections are really tight. As far as a second thermometer goes you should use a decent mercury one that stays submersed. Sometimes 2 different ones side by side will prove out the sensor.

Good luck and as you know i am not a hot tub man by no means but always willing to lend a hand!

Find out what the temp sensors resistance should be. Check it. I am gussing the thermistor is showing the wrong resistance. U could adjust it, so get that multimeter out.

I'm guessing that if it's a Duc it probably just needs a repair with parts only available in Italy...
