Industry Specific Blog?

Anyone on here maintain an industry specific blog? I am new to blogging and am looking for pointers.

Do you just recycle information/articles from the major industry publications? Or do you offer your own insight on the issues?

I am thinking of starting one for the steel industry. I want it to be specific to the North American high carbon steel and specialty metals market.

Let's discuss.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Are you talking about a true blog, or a forum type? A blog would just be you spitting out your knowledge, with no interaction from others. I think a forum would be better. I wish my company would get online and post our knowledge base. We do a lot of stainless machining, and it would be great to share and hear from others about it.

blogs allow comments/discussion from readers, however not as indepth as a forum would with the ease of being able to quote someone directly.

a blog is also not just limited to the blog writers personal experience or information. It can also include links to articles, industry news, product information, etc. with a personal opinion on the subject.

This is what I had in mind. I think a forum would be harder/more time consuming to maintain.

Mort, what I am trying to do is take what sites like AMM post and draw the conclusions for the industry. I would post a few articles and talk about the implications. For example, NA Moly forecasts are bleak with zero demand and low prices. China has high Moly processing costs. Because of the low price in NA and high costs in China, China is increasing the amount of Moly they import. Could this mean a better than forecasted outlook/demand for NA Moly? NA Moly mines are cutting back on production. NA inventories are being used up. Could low supply and potential high demand from China drive up NA Moly prices in the near future?

I see.

I've got a couple guys that send me emails daily and sometimes they'll make comments or remarks on certain articles in regards to what the market is doing.

If you want help with networking it, I can send out the link to a few people in the market...

Yeah, no shit. I hate talking to these dudes that are 65 and have been in the industry for 45 years. I barely know what kind of steel we use!

Pete Henry is a sales guy for Midwest Pipe and Steel. GREAT guy, with TONS of knowledge, he's only like 31 and has some really good insight and market analysis of his own. I think one day he will do what you are doin.

Pete Henry, I'll remember that. Hey, put in a good word for me and give his boss my resume
