my standards are too high and my budget too low anyways.. haha..
All I want is granite and stainless kitchen, open floorplan, 1 or 2 bedrooms, dog friendly, with a garage (not a parking spot, a garage) and for 700/mo... is that too much to ask? LoL... oh and in the city --- NORTH side.... but not Rogers Park... yeah... (hey I'm unemployed, and picky)

You can get very lucky, but usually it's not ever available.

I found a $650, not including utilities, 1 bedroom in Ukrainian Village with a 1 1/2 garage. It was a fuckin' dump, but the garage was sweet.

Besides that i have heard stories of apartment dwellers having garages, but I have yet to see it.

I used a real estate agent for my recent apartment search. CL was good, but not great. Her fees were a whopping $35 if I found a place, and it was retarded easy.

I sent her my qualifications. She sent me an MLS page with a few dozen options. She picked me up and drove me around (on my schedule) for the showings, and I signed on a place that night.

The whole thing was made even more pleasant by the fact that she was a hot single chick.

Definitely recommend it if you're getting bored with the CL hunt. It's also better than dealing with apartment-type hunters, because with the current economy, private owners are dropping trou just to avoid foreclosure. I wound up renting a condo for a fraction of what it would have cost me a couple of years ago.

Their loss - my gain.

I pay 1350 for a 2br in edgewater, technically not with a garage but the landlord sucks at clearing storage space for me in the basement so I'm lucky to get the garage space for the bikes =)

and I used to pay 1175 for a 3br with two car garage just up the street.. but the landlord decided she'd rather live in my unit (after I was there for four years)

I live in a single room above a bowling alley and below another bowling alley.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

These guys found me a pretty nice place, they'll drive you around as well. And the girls that work there are usually pretty good looking as a bonus.

Cheap tenants like you guys makes it tough for a landlord to pay the mortgage on the property.
