Question for the Police re: plates/tint

This question is for the police officers we have on the board.

How strict are the policy officers in the area regarding not having a front plate, and tinted windows?

I'm sure it is up to the officer but as a common occurence...

Do you pull people over evertime you see one of these infractions?

Only if they're doing something stupid?

Only if you're bored?

And so on...

Lots of Audi guys run filler plates, and when I got pulled over once back on I88, the Trooper walked to the front and checked to make sure I have a plate (I do, so no ticket), but that was the first time ones ever checked (that I've noticed).

I do have tints on my car (35%) and have driven by and been next to many police, and never had an issue. (knock on wood)...so I'm just trying to figure out what it might be that would make an officer ticket (so that I may avoid it if possible), or if it's unavoidable and its just the luck of the draw.

I have no front plate on my pontiac grand prix...it was an IN car where they don't have it, so the front bracket wasn't put on...

that being said I've been pulled over 5-6 times, sometimes just for that offense, but have never received a ticket or a warning

the wife got a no front plate tik in arlington heights the other day on her way to work.

I haven't gotten one for years, and have RARELY had one installed. I suspect more revenue generation in the future, esp in Chicago.

All you have to find is an office that feels like writing you a ticket.

Tint is illegal in drivers and passengers door.

It is required to have a front plate in Illinois.

So if the cop even *thinks* you are a dick, instant ticket.

But isn't it interesting that most Corvettes, and all Ferrari's, and most Porsche's and lots of BMW's have no fromt plate and tinted windows, but they don't get pestered.

It generally appears (to me) that the POPO use these 2 items as harrassment for younger drivers.

I haven't been stopped for my tint, but know of lots of young(er) STI owners that get stopped regularly.

GO figure.

Sure.....

If you drive a beater ricer with tint and no front plates your screwed.

And if you have a respectable car you are more apt to get away with it.

A typical Case of American Blind Justice.

The answer for the OP is "drive a high dollar car and don't drive like an asshole"

when i think of tint, i think of people that have something to hide, gangs, guns, liqour. younger folks are usually associated with that, so cops are on their asses.
front plates are a must in illinois, if ur car doesnt have a plate holdrer, u better drill urself some holes and avoid that ticket.
-a cop told me in h.s.

This is going to be a long-term relationship

i bought my car in NC, where there is nO tint law for front windows.. i got pulled over in Palatine about it and i explained it to the officer how i got it while stationed in NC whodathunk it, but he was in Iraq the same time i was... so no ticket..

but isn't it feasible that if the car is bought in a state that allows it that an owner wouldn't remove the tint? i mean, i've seen civi- CrownVics with "K-9" stickers still on it...

Doesn't matter where the car was purchased, tint on the front windows is illegal. Remember, you can black out your rear windows. IL law is weird about that. Cop still won't see a silhouette if your rear window is limo black, but if you have 50% it's illegal - logic fail.

Chicago is a mother [email protected] on front plates(meter maids). The only legal way to have tint on the driver and passenger side windows is by getting one of these:

k-9 isn't illegal to have. only police and location. And to answer your question just because NC allows it doesn't make it legal in another state. hence why every state tells you check with the state and local laws when traveling to another state.

go time traveler style and go back in time, fuck his grandma, then shoot forward in time and then fuck his mom. Then return back to present state and call him a the product of two incest whores and hes your son and show video of you plowing the both members of his family. .

I usually don't get bothered too much for either of those. I asked the DMV and they said just keep my RX with me in the car if I get pulled over for the tints.
I got pulled over by a state trooper last week and he said I need to get the plate. I dropped the form off at my Ophthalmologist so I am hoping to pick it up when he gets back from vacation so I can get my WT plates.

My Jeep has dark tint on the back glass, back side glass and back door glass - legal.

If I tint the drivers door or passenger door 15%, that's illegal in Illinois.

The only way you can keep tint on an out of state car is if it is registered out of State ( where window tint is legal )

I got a window tint ticket the day after i got the tint done. I knew it would happen....just wasnt expecting it to happen so soon! I don't really care tho, I just like the way cars look with tinted windows, every car i've owned has had tinted windows. plus not to mention how much it helps out on those hot summer days especially with black leather interior. I did have lens replacement surgery 3 years ago.. I wonder if showing my "patient lens implant id card" to the cop would of got me out of the ticket?

Oh, and BTW the cop was having a heart attack because i cracked my door open to talk to him (since i just got the tint i wasnt about to roll them down and fuk up the tint) suburban cops need to relax a little.

i have 20% tint all around and no front plate. i was driving back from the city last night on 290 and a state trooper pulls up in the lane next to me, pacing me. i know hes staring at me, and my windows were up (it was like 35 degrees last night)

he swings behind me, im thinking im screwed because of the tints. im pretty sure he ran my plates. he follows me for a good half mile before turning off.

got lucky. and i drive a stock is300 and dont drive like an asshole. but live in schaumburg lol

This whole thing is really up to the officer, town, city, etc. So there is no real answer to this question. I know guys who have never wrote a ticket for this and worked with others who slammed people for it.
