March 2009 list of IL companies announcing layoffs

Shitty. Hope these don't affect anyone here directly, but the list keeps growing.

i have used both bradley and orion. most company that i interview with was looking for me to move away from my family and they was not going to pay for my relocation. all those companies have pools of people that they pick from and sometime they don't pick people at all. I have noticed that most companies are using temp agancy to place people with the temp agacy doing most of the work by drug testing and background check for them. those companies can also fire you anytime without paying unemployment from the company budget.

My company was nice enough to give everyone this Friday off. Unfortunately, it's unpaid

Fortunately, it should prevent more layoffs.

Same here. Friday off but have to use PTO time. We had three layoffs already since OCT. 08. They even threw in a two week layoff for some of us, I don't think we could run any leaner than we are.

Union Pacific has been furlowing, but it has not gotten to me yet. We are cut almost bare bones, and I still have almost 80 people that would be but before they got to me. And rail traffic is picking up. A good sign things are picking up.

I agree it actually makes sense but I'm not going to jump up and down about losing money. It was also more how it was announced:

"company is doing great, had a great month of March...

And we are giving everyone Friday off."

*quietly* "... And it's unpaid."

"back to our great month of March and our good predictions for April"

Wow, I guess it might be your line of work then that is making it difficult, If a company wants you bad enough they will move you, hell I had a friend the place he went to work for even took over selling his house and the payments until it was sold so he could move his family and work for them.

as far as temps go, no benifits for the company to pay out, its a win win for both parties, except the guy doing the work.
