I don't miss this.

This was on the same base where I was stationed at. One thing that I hated the most, especially when we had to live in the tents most of the tour. It was even worse when this happened on the road. Nothing like sitting in the truck sweating your ass off and nowhere to go.

No, you don't choke. You cover your mouth/nose with a cloth and just breathe slow. Then you spend hours afterwards cleaning the sand out of places you didn't know existed.

Shamals, absofreakinlutely. The marvelous thing about these is... its not windy. You are literally just standing in a sand cloud. No stinging or anything, but after 2 mins outside, you are covered. I lived in the same kind of tents and cleaning them out after sucked. These are one of the times you genuinely appreciate those big ass goggles you're issued

The worst part about it is the shit you spit up, even if you wear a bandana. After one dust storm I was hacking up a lot of lung butter and doc gave me antibiotics to clear up whatever i got. we've got dust storms here, but not anywhere near as bad as up north.

That's amazing it gets that dark! Does it really switch from day to night like that?

It gets that dark initially, then it lightens up a little.
