iPhone users!!! Instant messaging (yahoo messenger)?

yo guys, i was wondering if you know FOR A FACT if instant messaging, like yahoo messenger, counts towards your text messages. i know that back in the day they did. i know that with blackberries it does, that's why blackberry messenger was such a great thing b/c it was free. we just did a lil test with my wife's phone. we checked her text usage by dialing *data# and she still had 1448 left of her 1500 texts allowed per month. then we signed in onto yahoo messenger on her phone. not connected to wifi and just using the 3G network. we starting IMing back and forth (i was on my laptop). sent about 15 IMs to each other. then we went back and checked her remaining text messages and it was still at 1448. i want to know if it's safe to assume that using Yahoo Messenger DOES NOT count towards her texts messages that she has per month. i don't want to be surprised one day with a $700 cell phone bill...

if one of you can let me know that would be greatly appreciated!

thanks guys! hope you all had a wonderful Easter and Passover!

I don't believe it should count against her text messages, the yahoo messenger is just using internet access and yahoo's servers.

They do no count against texts, like they did in the past. They now all count against data usage. So you should be on an unlimited data plan.

if your iphone account is the same as my att account, ATT IM no longer counts on data usage, they now count purley on your text usage....i was wondering this same thing when i upgraded my phone back in January. so i asked and thats the response the att rep gave me.

Everyone needs a healthy way to relax, mine Church, and two wheels, a stretch of winding road, and a pipe loud enough to give me headaches and make squirrels explode. (Fixed curtousey of PWRMAD)

Nothing is impossible the second we say ill try your already admiting you can be defeated, and the second you say i cant or its to hard youve already failed.

I read that AIM doesn't go against texts on the iPhone because you are using it on the data plan, so I am guessing YIM is the same (on the at&t site). They just came out with a YIM app also a few weeks ago, and they also have an app that it's free to text from an iPhone. I think it's called Textfree, but the app is 5.99 (for unlimited texting), but after that you don't have to pay for texting and it uses the data plan also.
For non iPhones users it does count against the texting, but for the iPhone it goes agains the data plan.

Poor saq. Your probably confused more now than B4 with all these yes and no's. I agree with Cheyenne tho. If you have 1500 texts then your probably paying close to the unlimited price anyway!

You're wrong about BlackBerries. It all depends what software you're using for the Instant Messenger. Some cell companies pre-load the phones with IM programs that do use txt instead of data, but it's not phone dependent.

Find a third party app for the iPhone that supports multiple IM protocols, and it'll only use data

I also think it's the sam AIM/YIM for the ipod Touch and you don't have texting plans with the ipod Touch. A guy I work with just jumps on thw WiFi with his iPod Touch and texts his friends on that.

EDIT:
Hope this helps:
http://daol.aol.com/software/mac/iphone/aim/faq

How do I send text messages using AIM?

To send a text message using AIM for iPhone, tap the IMs button and then tap the new IM button in the upper right corner of the screen. Enter your buddy's full phone number like: +14085551212. You can also enter just the 10 digit number and we'll add the +1 for you. You can also add phone numbers to your Buddy List view by entering the full number in the Add Buddy panel. Currently, you can only send messages to mobile phones in North America (phone numbers in country code 1).

What does it cost to send text messages using AIM?

AOL does not charge a fee to send text messages using AIM. Text messages are treated the same as normal IM messages and are included as part of your device's data plan.
