You would think there would be, but there is a chance that there is not (although very small). On a side note, I love astronomy, but it is very intense to try and grasp the size of the universe.

If you could walk the circumference of a very large sphere, it too would appear to go on forever..... By the time you got back around, it would not be the same thing again

Hence, the 'time' component.

Take a toke and ponder that one for an evening.

I believe the scale and all of those various stars all over the place just about guarantees life forms like us on other planets. I am sure there are a ton of planets out there that have a similar atmosphere to that of earth. It would be the equivalent of saying there are 2 million blue and white gixxers out there, but my bike is the fastest . Nope, your bike is just like the rest.

(According to Big Bang) So two species, at an intelligent level, at the same time is remote.

And when you consider that after 10,000 years or so, most of the man made artifacts will be gone, you have to ask yourself........ How do you search for an extinct race from millions of years ago?

It doesn't matter though...... we have all done this before...... and we will do it many times again. If you know what the true question is.......... 42 is a pretty good answer.

Yeah, time always screws everything up, I hate time. I hate TV shows that play with time, just stop it . Even in the pic, it says you see a pic of something 18 billion years ago. So even assuming you could go to that spot right now, it could technically be gone or changed to something awful because 18 billion years have passed

I disagree. Look how many galaxys are in the one small photo, 10,000. The numbers across the Universe are infinite. Alien life does not have to be the same intelligent level, it just has to originate from another planet. No means to prove this unless we find the proverbial worm hole or catch an alien radio signal. There could be simple life forms in our solar system, moons of Jupiter and what not.

Sorry..... I didnt say that alien life (human, animal, plant, microbe) doesnt exist on other worlds right now. I just meant to say, it is HIGHLY unlikely that we will find evidence of.......or contact...... another intelligent race.

I fully believe there was / is intelligent life somewhere, which is why I help with SETI.

Ah yes...the Hubble deep field. The Hubble telescope has actually been able to peer far enough back in time (into deep space) to just after the Big Bang. Truly awesome stuff.

And check out the Drake Equation for the Alien life in the Universe debate.

True. ...BUT

In the same light, wouldn't there be newer (relatively newer) planets at the same distance which exist presently. However, we just cannot see them yet. So if we could travel faster than the speed of light, then wouldn't previously unseen objects appear out of nowhere?

...holy crap. Pass me the doobie.
